Bastide Lets You Build The Medieval Empire Of Your Dreams

A new Medieval Builder
From independent video game development studio Medieval Nexus comes the medieval city builder, Bastide. Based in the UK, the team has worked on this incredible early access game, which brings the 13th century's struggle to become a city-building-style game. On its surface, it can be a simple city builder with challenges arising that threaten your village.
Bastide looks great. Using Unreal Engine 5, the effects of the day/night cycle, weather, and events give the game life. The map that you start on is large in scale, and you can see the potential around your village, helping you plan what is needed next to build it up. The foliage of the wheat fields, the large open forest teeming with wildlife, and the soothing rush of the river all add to the aesthetic of living in a medieval era village.
The most important thing about your village is the villagers themselves. Each villager has its own unique name and skill that they are better at, giving you more control over how efficient your village can be. Assigning them jobs to secure food from fishing, hunting, or farming gives your village a fighting chance. The game offers many different building types and uses, making decisions harder. Do you need another hunting lodge to provide more food or a Healing Hut to make needed medicine? The choice is yours, and it gets harder the larger your village grows.
Overall, Bastide is a great medieval city builder that is fun and exciting. The choices you make have huge impacts on the stability and survivability of your village. Although it's still in early access, what they have released now is more than fun enough. With more updates to come, I'm certainly excited for the future of Bastide.
