Gregory (00:01.888)
What is up everybody? Welcome back to another week of the gz chop shop gaming podcast. I am your host Greg and we're back from a nice long vacation back from japan a lot of amazing things have happened. So, you know if you guys are wondering where we were that's what we were doing taking a vacation exploring japan getting to see some of the Top tier gaming spots in akia bar, but we'll talk all about that
later because a lot of crap has happened since we've been gone a lot of gaming news to cover and not a lot of time to cover it so we got to dive right in starting off with sony
So Sony doing things Sony has no business doing and it's extremely disappointing because you know, we're Sony fans and Granted we all know that these corporations they're not our friends, but you can always hold on to hope that they'll do more good than harm And right now Sony is pulling on Microsoft and we got to talk about it. We got to talk about it
Ty (00:48.079)
Screw in the poot!
Ty (01:14.767)
Be specific so that people don't sit here think we're trying to be haters. They are pulling a Microsoft 2012, 2013. Whenever they made the Xbox One announcement.
Gregory (01:23.022)
12ish? Yeah.
Gregory (01:28.798)
Yeah. So for people who don't remember the history of the Xbox one 2012 fiasco, a little bit of a quick refresher. When that Xbox one came out, Microsoft was making this really strong push that their games had to be online constantly. And they basically were doing this thing where you wouldn't be able to resell the game or even share the games with your friends. It was going to be like locked to your account.
And you had to always be online to prove that you own the game. And it was this huge thing that just it did them more harm than good.
Ty (02:05.902)
And if after a 30 day period, if you did not appear online, the game shut down on you.
Gregory (02:11.788)
Yeah, you lost your access to the game, which is one of the biggest issues with digital media is that at any time the distributor, i.e. Sony, Microsoft, or the publishers themselves can revoke your access to the game, which is something we all agree to when you sign the TOS. But if you don't sign the TOS, even if you paid for the game, you do not get to play the game. So it's kind of like...
You're stuck either way. And players with Sony right now have discovered mostly on the PS4, occasionally on the PS5, but it seems like the quote unquote bug appears more in the PS4 that Sony was rolling out a DRM for those who don't know what DRM is, it's digital right management that said if you weren't checking in every 30 days on these games, you would
lose the access to the game until you did check in. So basically the game would lock you out. You would not be able to play your game. And you know, at first you're like, well, that's not a big deal for people who constantly have internet. That might not seem like a big deal, but it actually is because military, that was my first thought. was like, okay, that screws over military people because if they have a digital, do you know, if they take a digital system,
Ty (03:28.118)
military.
Gregory (03:39.106)
which is beneficial for them, because then they don't have to take an entire physical collection, they're going to be screwed if they can't have access to internet for a month. Their system is going to essentially be useless. And Sony is saying, because they were saying, that was a bug. That's not really what's going on. And my thought is, was like, OK, that's a heck of a bug. And I'm thinking it was a bug that we saw it sooner than it was meant to roll out. I think they weren't.
Ty (04:06.764)
Yep.
Gregory (04:08.961)
ready for us to see it yet. And either someone or something got screwed up or someone looking out for the gamers made sure we saw it so that we could know in advance what Sony is about to do probably later this year. Because the details, like if you look at some of the screenshots for players from the PS4.
It's very detailed. It says from the last time you logged in on this game and then it says when that license for the game is going to expire and it's 30 days later. So I'm like for a bug that was a very specific, well detailed amount of information.
Ty (04:47.884)
very, a very intrusive bug at that, like a bug that had it down to the T of, hey, this is when they last logged in, this is how they played it, this is this, this, this, this, and this. Granted, person could have easily played the game, but had no access to internet in that timeframe. And now look, yeah, my game is completely useless. Which again,
why I have an issue with Sony doing this is your whole PS4 campaign was literally your first commercial was no, not even first commercial. Your initial presentation to announce the PS4 was then head of Sony Japan handing then head of Sony US a disc saying here, let's share a game.
Like, y'all went right after Microsoft did, and that was just a giant fuck you to Microsoft because y'all heard them say, you can't share games. And that was y'all first thing that y'all did, being petty. Granted, it was hilarious. But don't sit here and say, we won the console wars, which is essentially what you're doing now.
Gregory (05:59.821)
Mm-hmm.
Ty (06:15.798)
saying we won the console war so we can do whatever the fuck we want. Don't do that shit. Because just as fast as Microsoft got fucked up with the one in the Series X not selling how they hoped for it, Sony, that shit could happen to you real quick too. Like, yes, PS2 was a hot commodity and it sold so goddamn well, it's not even funny that it's still.
Gregory (06:31.381)
Mm-hmm.
Gregory (06:35.51)
Mm-hmm.
Ty (06:43.734)
a top five console seller in history. However, did well if Sega's marketing was better with the Dreamcast, y'all would have been fucked.
Gregory (06:46.743)
today. Yeah.
Gregory (06:58.641)
yeah, absolutely. 100 % Sega could have taken it and Sony wouldn't be acted the way they are. The other reason Sony is probably getting out of pocket is because they probably their biggest competitor in consoles is basically taken in the right now. They literally have no choice but to step back and reevaluate themselves. And everyone knows Nintendo
has their own lane. So they don't even look at Nintendo because Nintendo has their own lane. And the biggest game, the true biggest gaming competitor is also kind of hit in the balls because of the RAM issue is PC. PC was the ultimate threat for them. PC kept everybody in check to a certain extent, but right now...
Ty (07:34.465)
Yup.
Gregory (07:55.262)
even PC gamers are feeling the pressure because parts are getting ridiculously expensive. So now they're limited in how much they can do and how often they can upgrade their computer without getting secondhand parts in. And, you know, with the RAM shortage showing no sign of letting up anytime soon, the A.I. bubble still hasn't popped yet. Sony's thinking, OK.
This is probably the point where we can do whatever because there's no competition for us. We're still cheaper than PC. So people who don't want to invest in a PC that hadn't invested in PC yet have almost nowhere to go. They're going to wind up coming to us because ha, anyone who's watched gaming news knows Microsoft's and well, they're in the abyss right now. And
people that want those heavier hitting games aren't gonna go to Nintendo because it's Nintendo. So you've got no choice but to come to us. And that's like a terrible mindset to have.
Ty (09:04.12)
But them thinking like that, like you said, is a terrible mindset because like...
Ty (09:12.032)
I don't want to say Microsoft is in the abyss because every move they have recently made
It's probably one of the most positive moves that you can possibly think of in gaming. When's the last time you heard someone drop prices? All across the board. It's not even just like, hey, I drop prices on just the console. No, you drop prices on your subscription. You drop prices on the console. Pretty sure you drop prices on some of the
Gregory (09:31.351)
from. Yeah.
Ty (09:47.723)
Additional hardware that you can get I think the comp I'm not costumers, but the controllers even drop prices I think don't quote me on that one off something like it but like they literally and granted that's usually a sign of Doomsale, but at the same time That shit right there is very important very lucrative because it's telling people yet again Because Sony went through this shit with the ps3 and you think they would have learned their fucking lesson. Hey
Last time we made something more expensive, look what happened. PS3 at first did not sell well because they were charging what $600 for the PS3 brand new. Whereas the 360 was like 400. was like, that's why everybody ended up with the 360. What shot Microsoft in the fucking foot was when everybody found out the red rings was intentional.
Gregory (10:28.589)
Yeah, PS3 was expensive when it came out.
Gregory (10:43.97)
Yeah.
Yeah. you know, the it's good that Microsoft is doing what they're doing. And I don't want to say Microsoft as a whole. It's good that their president is making their new president is making this push to lower game pass, to not let games or certain games on launch be on game pass. So they actually make sales, you know. And I know a lot of the community is probably not going to like that because they got so used to game pass and a lot of them are avid on if it's not on game pass.
game pass, I don't play it. And I'm like, that's fine. It's your money. No, no, you know, just don't be upset that you don't see it day one. And you actually have to wait to play the game. As long as you're OK with that. Yeah, you know, do you? The only issue I see is how the shareholders, because they're so used to that money, it's going to be interesting to see how the shareholders respond.
because just the same way as the gaming community can cause good things to burn up, shareholders also cause issues.
Ty (11:55.445)
You
Uly (11:56.154)
For our listeners only right now, Daniel joined us.
Ty (12:00.463)
So, all right, I'll explain why I did that. I will explain why I did that. So when Daniel popped up, on my stream, my blanket wasn't there. I was just chilling. And then Daniel pops up and then that blanket is just on my side, like right here. And I'm like,
Uly (12:11.514)
That's what we're calling, that's what we're calling, that's what it is?
Gregory (12:19.437)
You
Uly (12:22.042)
She's cut it off!
Daniel (12:22.363)
This man is napping on the job.
Gregory (12:22.647)
Dale's presence stretched out everyone's scream. Hide the blankie.
Ty (12:26.447)
Yeah, so that's what I was like, oh shit.
Like my blankie!
Gregory (12:34.327)
But yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see how the shareholders respond to, you know, Xbox wanting to end the whole rebranding. She's gonna get a lot of pushback. Yeah. And she's gonna get a lot of pushback. She's got a huge uphill battle ahead of her, but I commend her for trying.
Ty (12:45.699)
Them trying to focus on just Xbox.
Uly (12:49.338)
Do think it's gonna be... Is it gonna be real? Damnit, is it gonna be real?
Ty (12:55.363)
But I think the community is going to praise her for, well, I won't say the community as a whole. The, Cod purists are going to hate it because she already said, she essentially already said, I don't give a fuck about Cod being day one, I'm lowering these prices. Cod's not going to be day one on Game Pass no more. I don't give a fuck. Right?
but her saying, hey, we are focusing on exclusives again. It's probably one of the most positive things I've heard Microsoft do in well over a decade.
Ty (13:35.791)
Cause they used to have some good ass exclusives and now you don't have to sit here and be like, well, it's either going to be on Game Pass or it's going to be in Sony and like the same day. So why the fuck do I have to worry about it? You know?
Daniel (13:50.727)
Xbox, well Microsoft really made the entire brand of Xbox. Like they may cod their whole personality for like 10 years and it and they got shot in the foot for it. And it's it's about time for them to back away from Call of Duty and start focusing on all the other studios they spent billions of dollars on and got almost nothing back because they sank it in the game pass. Elder School 6 needs to come out.
Uly (14:15.756)
You guys, gotta push Elder Scrolls 6 out.
needs to come out.
Ty (14:21.719)
I'm telling you right now, I'm telling you right now, if they announce that's not a day one exclusive, I'm telling you, people are gonna riot and I'm going to laugh because it should have never happened. The whole Bethesda thing shouldn't have happened, but that's another story.
Daniel (14:22.011)
Ten years ago it needed to come out.
Uly (14:39.705)
wait, Bethesda has been serving themselves L's for a long, well since Fallout 4 I would say.
Gregory (14:47.741)
Yeah, fall force of Apollo 76, yeah.
Uly (14:48.986)
For fall. Yeah, I for it was like a man and then follow 76 came out. It was a shit storm Yep, but it came back up, but it's too little too late. It's not like no man's sky or the same thing with starfield Fail they try to fix it up still a failure. You're not gonna no man's sky yourself out of that No, man, no amount of updates are gonna fix what what you just made the it's done
Ty (14:50.169)
Yeah.
Gregory (14:55.425)
That was abysmal.
Gregory (15:08.845)
Yeah.
Gregory (15:14.059)
And I think the other thing to not, you know, not to derail from the fact that Sony's in hot water right now is the fact that another thing that's given Sony a really big head is the fact that Xbox is giving Sony a lot of their games. So that's also given Sony a big head right now and why Sony is doing a lot of the bullshit that they're doing, because they're like, ha, we're getting.
all of your games and we haven't given you even a fraction of what we had before. So everyone's going to come to us.
Ty (15:46.256)
but that's the thing, them making that announcement, hey, we're focusing on us again. Sony, you about to lose all that exclusivity that you were getting from them. shut the fuck up.
Gregory (15:58.498)
Yeah, because gamers love exclusives. They might preach and they might get out there and be like, you know, why can't I just play this game ever? But let's just be honest. Exclusives is a part of gaming. And there's there's a thing about it that every gamer loves. Even PC gamers, they love a game that is specifically on PC. Why? Because they can mob the shit out of it. They know that that's something that's exclusive to PC. Nintendo.
Ty (16:13.028)
Yes.
Gregory (16:30.078)
Just Nintendo. That's like all you gotta say is Nintendo.
Ty (16:31.663)
Yeah, I'm about to say, you don't even gotta go any further than that.
Daniel (16:33.201)
Now they're gonna catch some flame too with that whole subscription shit with Final Fantasy and stuff that doubled down on the... Everyone's catching flames today. All three of them on my shit list.
Gregory (16:38.957)
Oh man, don't even get me started on that. Yeah, the 10th. Sony is doing bull. Nintendo's doing bull. This is the first time Microsoft is actually kind of sitting in their own corner. Like, Hey, we've already, we already fucked up. We don't have nothing.
Ty (16:46.679)
Me and Nintendo's always on my shit, lads.
Daniel (16:56.667)
I think this is the yeah, this is the first time in years that I've been able to look at look at Microsoft and be like, y'all are the only ones that aren't pissing me off right now. Y'all are y'all are actually trying to improve.
Gregory (17:05.165)
They're behaving right now.
Ty (17:09.839)
But again, Nintendo's always like this, but people just don't ever want to call Nintendo out, ever.
Gregory (17:16.173)
I'm gonna tell you why. I really, I'm gonna explain why Nintendo. And I realized this while I was in Japan. But I did realize this while I was in Japan. And I like, when I was visiting the retro shops, there were times where I actually just hung out in the Nintendo aisle. One Nintendo dominates retro shops. Like their sections are enormous, only.
Uly (17:21.912)
Yes, why Nintendo?
Gregory (17:45.643)
The only section that actually matches them is the PS2 error. Everyone else's section is usually small.
Uly (17:51.102)
PSP the portable PlayStation like all those portable games when I was there too is like damn I'm glad I bought myself a PSP and Vita and I'm just picking out the games because they have everything there I'm like we don't have this no more
Gregory (18:05.261)
Yeah. So when and when I was in Super Potato, I know a lot of people, you know, that they don't like Super Potato because it's expensive. But when I was in Super Potato and I was in the Nintendo section, I was like, this is why Nintendo gets away with a lot of stuff they get away with. Yes. The PS Vita and the PSP had a ton of games that we didn't get. They had a ton of games. But what makes Nintendo stand out is
Ty (18:15.117)
huh.
Gregory (18:33.899)
The consoles are also part of the experience. It's, they're like transformative. They're accessories. No one else does accessories like Nintendo's done accessories. From the N64, the transfer pack that allowed you to play your Game Boy games on your N64. And then they turn that into the Game Boy player that you could attach to the GameCube. The designs of their consoles, the way they did things made it
all an experience. The expansion pack for the N64, even though, you you had the PS1 that already had better graphics and was superior hardware, but you couldn't do as much with your PlayStation that you could do with your N64.
Ty (19:21.027)
You know, they invented the virtual boy, that piece of shit, but it was so innovative.
Gregory (19:24.267)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That thing.
Ty (19:29.547)
Hey, still a piece of shit. I don't care what you say. The fuck I look like looking at all red. I ain't in Thailand.
Gregory (19:35.65)
But here's the thing, I put, this is what I mean though, like I can put my console now in my Virtual Boy. It's like a toy without being a toy. So like that's part of the experience of Nintendo. And that's what keeps them on top. It's like they know what they have. That's the true nostalgia factor with Nintendo.
Daniel (19:59.067)
That's true. I never really thought about it, but yeah. Xbox and PlayStation.
Uly (20:02.51)
I'll remember when.
Yeah, y'all remember? Dude, they try to copy the Wii so bad with Xbox Move, the PlayStation camera. my God. They try to recreate Wii Sports and can never do it. Wii Sports.
Gregory (20:11.254)
And it failed.
Daniel (20:13.211)
That's what I was thinking of just now, like the connect and stuff. Like it was okay, but.
Ty (20:13.359)
Yeah.
Gregory (20:17.643)
Yeah. And you get perfect example, you. That's the perfect example. Look how everyone lost their minds when the we came out because of what the we did.
Ty (20:27.235)
Yeah, the Kinect was a shit show.
Gregory (20:29.185)
Yeah, and no one, not even PlayStation, has attempted this. The PlayStation portal is the closest Sony has attempted again to step into the realm that's been dominated by Nintendo for decades now.
Ty (20:42.383)
to it.
Ty (20:47.683)
Well, okay, so I will pot me kettle. So Nintendo stepped back into the handheld world because their last console that was not handheld exclusive. Well, I shouldn't say handheld exclusive. That wasn't a hybrid of a handheld and a fucking at home console failed.
Daniel (21:14.439)
Some of the Wii U?
Ty (21:17.069)
that part.
Daniel (21:17.317)
The one that almost destroyed Nintendo.
Ty (21:20.355)
Yes. Mind you, mind you, the Wii U wasn't a bad system.
Gregory (21:21.441)
Well, so here's the reason too. Yeah, they didn't have any games.
Daniel (21:22.951)
It wasn't. It wasn't.
Uly (21:25.241)
What was that?
They didn't know how to use the screen on top of it being part of your TV.
Gregory (21:30.519)
Yeah.
Ty (21:33.103)
Yeah.
Gregory (21:33.185)
Yeah, and they didn't give developers enough time to make to yeah.
Ty (21:38.243)
to truly develop the shit.
Daniel (21:38.311)
I the name screwed them up too because people were confused as to whether or not it was a new gen console or like some sort of extension of the Wii.
Gregory (21:51.021)
The Wii U was their version of a PlayStation Pro.
Ty (21:51.375)
no, that was a new jam console. We're fucking chipped.
Daniel (21:53.261)
I know that, but there's been lot of articles out since then of, confusion. Because a lot of people that, believe it or not, a lot of people that buy these consoles, they don't know all the ins and outs of them. They don't follow them.
Ty (21:57.603)
confusion.
Uly (22:02.586)
Whose car was that?
Ty (22:08.439)
Listen, I can't help either my wife or my sister-in-law came home, okay? Can I help that? I'm in my...
Uly (22:09.774)
you
Daniel (22:16.231)
So yeah, a large like, demograph was very confused as to what the Wii U was supposed to be and just didn't buy it.
Ty (22:17.037)
Yeah.
Gregory (22:21.707)
Yeah. Yeah. And that was the thing. And then there's a lot of and I own a Wii U and even I didn't remember half the games I had for it. I forgot there was a Wii U exclusive Smash Bros. Even though they make a Smash Bros for every system, I was like, yeah, there was Smash Bros Wii U. Oops.
Ty (22:35.46)
Yes.
Daniel (22:35.963)
You know.
Uly (22:44.122)
Wait, what games did I own for the Wii? What the
Ty (22:44.643)
I don't think it was called Wii U.
Gregory (22:46.719)
It was it was there they had yeah, it was Smash Bros It was for the Wii U specifically I had it digitally downloaded and they had the Wii U in the title
Ty (22:49.165)
I don't think it was cold.
Uly (22:51.322)
Was it the Wii U? I think it was the Wii U. was the-
Daniel (22:57.807)
Yeah, smash, super smash bros for Wii U.
Ty (22:59.169)
shit yeah!
Gregory (23:01.995)
Yeah, that's what I thought. Yeah, it was in the name.
Ty (23:02.241)
Okay.
I was like, I think it was a different name, but I have it. I know I have it.
Gregory (23:09.707)
Everyone thinks brawl because brawl was right before it. everyone, yeah. And then everyone blanks out that it was Smash Bros Wii U.
Ty (23:13.239)
No, I was about to say, I know brawl was for the Wii.
Gregory (23:22.857)
And that's the one everyone forgets and never looks back.
Uly (23:29.034)
I found it on sale on eBay. Someone's selling one copy of it for 11 grand.
Ty (23:39.855)
Yeah, I'm not surprised.
Gregory (23:43.071)
It's the forgotten Smash Bros game.
Uly (23:45.026)
What are talking about? I'm looking at right now on GameStop for 10 bucks.
Ty (23:49.04)
Yeah, I'm not surprised by it. The Wii U is so weird because like there's games on the Wii U that for all sense and purposes would be rare nowadays, right? But it's like, do you have a Wii U and do you want to these games on the Wii U?
Just
Uly (24:16.922)
Breath of the Wild was in the Wii U? No. No, no, no, this is just, no, I was like, wait, I don't remember this, no, it's just.
Ty (24:19.427)
Huh? No, No, the exclusive Zelda on the Wii U was...
Gregory (24:20.351)
No. No.
Gregory (24:29.741)
Skyward Sword, wasn't it?
Uly (24:30.916)
Skyward Sword, that's what it was.
Ty (24:32.387)
Was it? No, they sc- No, Skyward Sword was the Wii.
Gregory (24:33.901)
because they had a remaster of Twilight Princess.
Daniel (24:37.935)
You know what's funny is the Wii U is the Switch. They just remade it a little bit and sold it back to people with a different name. It's the same console. It's just upgraded a little bit. That's the funny part.
Ty (24:48.003)
Yeah. Well, there's just not the bigger, there's not the bigger console to it. But Nintendo has been doing that for years.
Gregory (24:49.663)
I think the Wii U was a tech demo that they sold. Yeah.
Daniel (24:54.159)
Right. But I do miss being able to buy a console and then also have my Game Boy. I do miss being able to do that. They don't get to double dip in that sense anymore.
Ty (25:06.275)
Well, Nintendo has been doing that shit for years, because like, most people don't realize all the nunchuck was, was the fucking pointy end of the fucking 64 controller. The middle end, the middle portion of the 64 controller. That's the nunchuck part of the Wii.
Gregory (25:21.983)
N64? Yeah, I realize that. Yeah.
Uly (25:29.464)
No. No Breath of the Wild was on the Wii U.
Gregory (25:34.669)
How?
Uly (25:35.532)
I don't fucking know! I'm looking at it right now!
Ty (25:37.293)
No, it wasn't exclusive to the Wii U. So what happened, that's why I said that. Breath of the Wild was announced for the Switch. However, they also released the Wii U version.
Uly (25:51.13)
Fuck dude, that's how that console is so into the void of my mind right now
Ty (25:56.878)
Yeah, so it was announced for the Switch. The one that was like the weird redhead stepchild was they re-released Twilight Princess HD for the Wii U. That's what the exclusive was.
Gregory (26:11.093)
Yeah, which is actually worth a good amount of money
Because they haven't touched Twilight Princess again for whatever reason, but I'm holding on to hope since they're remaking Ocarina of Time. So, hey, you know.
Ty (26:23.133)
Yeah.
Uly (26:26.298)
You know what game I wish they would remake, but I don't think they would? Mad World.
Gregory (26:30.389)
No, because
Ty (26:31.373)
will never happen again because of Anarchy Reigns.
That's what fucked it up. Anarchy Reigns fucked up. The Mad World.
Gregory (26:41.963)
And is that studio even around anymore? Wait, that was yeah, it was yeah, but yeah that That's that's never gonna happen though Like that's one of the games that like everyone's pretty much said that that's never gonna happen It wasn't even because it was a bad game. They just picked the wrong system
Uly (26:44.09)
I don't think so.
Ty (26:44.205)
It is, it was Sega.
Don't do that to me. Do not do that to me, sir.
Ty (27:01.845)
Mm-hmm. And most people, again, did not know Mad World had a sequel. Technically.
Uly (27:02.677)
Such an amazing game.
Gregory (27:12.459)
Yeah.
Ty (27:13.327)
because Anarchy Reigns was said to- God damn it, Daniel!
Gregory (27:18.765)
That is a thing. my gosh.
Daniel (27:20.039)
this.
Uly (27:21.05)
$25. Yeah, I wasn't lying.
Ty (27:25.847)
Yeah! Yes! No, no, no!
Gregory (27:26.667)
Is this legit? Like...
Daniel (27:26.853)
I just, think, I think Greg needed like, I, Greg, feel like was in denial though. He was just.
Uly (27:31.202)
No, we- this is- this is I'm saying, this is- this is Mandela effect, like I feel like-
Gregory (27:31.639)
I really, I'm not gonna, I was, I was like, there's no way.
Ty (27:34.701)
Yeah, no, no, no, I knew about it.
Gregory (27:39.703)
This is is crazy. This is ridiculous
Uly (27:41.174)
is this.
Daniel (27:42.053)
For 25, I wonder how much it is for the Switch, like price comparison, it's funny to me.
Uly (27:44.932)
Daniel, it. Buy it.
Gregory (27:47.403)
I need to know if there's a legitimate game in there or someone just made this to mess with people as a whole.
Daniel (27:51.811)
No, because I, so this was just one example. There were many more on other websites, like plenty of more. just, I just clicked on the first one that popped up.
Gregory (27:57.397)
Wow.
Uly (27:57.74)
It was on GameStop. It was on GameStop, Doc. GameStop has it.
Daniel (28:00.997)
Yeah.
Ty (28:01.475)
Yeah, it was, I knew about it, but like, it was...
Gregory (28:03.25)
I don't trust GameStop.
Uly (28:04.974)
Hahaha
Daniel (28:07.077)
your beef with GameStop.
Ty (28:07.343)
It was advertised as a Switch game and they were like, oh, it's also going to be on Wii U. That's how it kind of worked out and then it came out.
Cause I think Breath of the Wild was a fucking startup game for the Switch, I think. So like.
Uly (28:28.186)
was a flagship it was a start yeah here's Breath of the Wild to get with your new Nintendo Switch and it's also out for the Wii U
Gregory (28:34.413)
March March 3rd 2017 became on their forgotten console. That is crazy That
Ty (28:41.667)
Like, I only remember that.
Uly (28:41.934)
There's probably, there's probably-
gotta be some people just like looking at us as these idiots.
Gregory (28:45.995)
I didn't even know they were still supporting the Wii U at that point. Wow.
Ty (28:49.583)
They supported a Wii U till like 2019, bro.
Gregory (28:54.037)
Now that I knew when they like when I when I looked I was like, okay, that's when they said they were shutting things down. But I thought like the actual because those shut things down years after they stopped support and I figured because what the switch came out 2015 2014 2015.
Ty (29:00.867)
Mm-hmm.
Ty (29:11.467)
No, Swish came out like 2017, bro.
Gregory (29:17.537)
So that was so that's even more reason I was confused because I was like, I don't remember anyone that was still playing a Wii U.
Ty (29:21.999)
Yeah, like I said, Breath of the Wild was one of the first games released on the Switch. The Switch came out March 3rd, 2017. I was gonna say, because I bought a Switch when I back from Hawaii, or like right before I left Hawaii.
Gregory (29:40.897)
Yeah, that's right. Because I got to switch the year came out to and Breath of the Wild was the game I got for it. But I had a man I hadn't touched.
Daniel (29:47.719)
Well, if it makes Nintendo feel better, they didn't fail as badly as the Commodore. Was it the GS64 in 1990? Sold like, what, like 2,000 copies? Or 2,000 consoles?
Ty (29:56.077)
The Commodore 64.
Gregory (29:57.164)
The Commodore 64. Yeah.
Uly (30:05.082)
That's 2000 happy customers right there.
Ty (30:07.331)
Hey, listen, a wins a win. Not really a win, it was more of a loss, but hey, who's counting?
Uly (30:10.148)
Wins win.
Gregory (30:12.845)
It just sucks, too, because like now that that time has long passed, people are love the Commodore 64. Like collectors like want the Commodore 64 and it's like, Dad, that's that it happened decades later. And then everyone's like, hey, have you played a Commodore 64? It's actually pretty good. And I'm like, wow. But they they came out at a time when people view video games as this great evil.
Daniel (30:43.431)
of every worst selling console, Virtual Boy actually did better than the Atari Jaguar, the Amstrad GX, the Apple Bondi, Pippin, I don't know why Apple made a console, the Gizmondo, don't even know what that is, and then the Commodore.
Uly (30:43.866)
They're still viewing it as this great evil.
Ty (30:58.285)
I do. I do. I had a Jaguar or two. That's the crazy part.
Gregory (31:00.289)
There's a lot of, you know, and that's so crazy. Like this is the perfect era to be a gamer. And at the same time, the worst time to be a gamer and the time where all we had the most consoles was at the time that people didn't take video games seriously. They just saw it as a waste of time. And that was the yeah, those were the golden years of gaming.
Ty (31:11.609)
COVID.
Daniel (31:20.839)
It weren't so critical on every particular game and console and if everything was perfect or not.
Uly (31:29.752)
You know how wild it would be like 30 years from now when we're grandparents and our kids are like, have you ever had the soldier boy console?
Ty (31:38.412)
you mean the thing he got sued for for literally ripping off a Wii U? That's all it was. It was a Wii U, but in white and Chinese.
Uly (31:40.378)
Yeah.
Gregory (31:44.299)
forgot about that.
Uly (31:45.946)
Right. was just thinking about it. Like we've had people, celebrities kind of try to make a console. I'm like, it's going to be weird when our grandkids are telling us like that story of those consoles. Like, Oh yeah, I learned it from my teacher. I'm like, who the fuck is your teacher?
Gregory (32:01.525)
I just want to say, like, I feel bad for our grandkids because they're going to have probably one console and one computer to pick from.
Ty (32:10.585)
Don't do that. Don't throw them.
Uly (32:11.834)
What are you talking about?
Gregory (32:12.043)
Well, you know what Bezos wants to do,
Uly (32:15.17)
No, by the time our grandkids are old enough to play games, gaming's for the wealthy now. You have to be a billionaire.
Ty (32:15.503)
Sorry, sorry.
Gregory (32:21.483)
and they'll still only have one thing to pick from. They'll have one console and one computer and they won't even own the computer. Everything will be a subscription. Even Sony, another reason I'm pissed at Sony. They wanna start leasing out consoles. And I'm like, don't start that. Do not start that.
Uly (32:24.122)
That's true.
Uly (32:37.658)
That's funny. I, when I read that, that was funny.
Ty (32:38.383)
This isn't right.
Daniel (32:38.759)
I thought PlayStation, Sony's already doing that. Or they're trying to do that. I had already put an article out like a year ago talking about doing that.
Gregory (32:48.449)
I know they were talking about it. didn't think that they had initially launched it yet because there's a whole lot of channels they gotta go through to ensure that people don't just run off with their consoles.
Ty (32:48.495)
Yeah, they're trying to rent this... rent this center.
Daniel (32:50.832)
Yeah.
Ty (32:59.667)
Yeah, right in the center like a motherfucka.
Daniel (33:00.999)
I feel like it's gonna backfire because of that. The amount of not just theft, damage to consoles and then people not being able to afford to replace it. What are y'all doing?
Gregory (33:02.819)
Yep
Uly (33:03.123)
hahahahah
Gregory (33:15.233)
I'm gonna tell you right now, America is going to be the very last place they launch that.
Ty (33:20.161)
I'm telling you right now, it's gonna be like those nasty people that sell their console back to GameStop. They open that bitch up and all you see is roaches.
Uly (33:20.204)
No, they're gonna be like six.
Daniel (33:29.467)
Think, yep, yep, think of the, scalpers are gonna find a way to like, like rent them and then sell them back and then sell them back for more, use some of the money to replace the console and then use the rest of the money to rent some more and then fucking replace the, like, it's gonna be this cycle. They're gonna find a way. Those pieces of shit, I hate them so much. I hate scalpers. I hate scalpers and Pokemon card trading.
Uly (33:31.662)
roaches cigarette stains
Gregory (33:49.741)
What's probably going to happen is in a con.
Uly (33:50.074)
Like home ownership.
Gregory (33:54.669)
you
Gregory (33:59.074)
No, that's a valid, that's a valid hate though. I'm with him on that. It's a valid hate.
Uly (33:59.364)
Point your local scalper.
Ty (34:00.036)
Sounds like you're slurring.
Look at him. Look at him. He said scalpel like it was a slur.
Daniel (34:04.135)
No, every time, every time I pass a Pokemon card vending machine at the store, I look over and I'm like, let there be a line, let there be a line so I can walk up to it and be, I just want to be annoying. I just, hate all of you. I want to be like, why are you buying so many dog? You're 40. Why are you buying so many? There's kids behind you dog. Like I just want to be a dick.
Ty (34:17.315)
Mm-hmm.
Gregory (34:23.533)
Just...
Uly (34:24.696)
You know, I hate the way they'll say is like, this is an investment. what the, it's a fucking car game.
Gregory (34:31.551)
Yeah, but I was going to say what what what Sony is probably going to do, at least for places like here in America, you're probably going to have to have a credit check before you can even like you imagine getting your credit score checked so you can lease a PlayStation. You still don't qualify.
Daniel (34:31.673)
Anyway, sorry, escalation of triggers there.
Daniel (34:45.861)
Ha!
Uly (34:46.98)
my god.
Daniel (34:51.291)
And then you get a hard, a hard inquiry ding, and then you still don't, you still don't get it.
Ty (34:53.241)
No, no, that is better.
Ty (34:59.097)
That is better than when, who was it? You can use Klarna at McDonald's.
Daniel (35:06.523)
That's wild. No, I've seen, I've seen some wild things with Klarna.
Uly (35:07.534)
What the fu-
Ty (35:09.22)
yeah, you see all y'all faces? Yeah, exactly.
Gregory (35:11.797)
Well, you know, not even Clarke, you can use a firm too for fast food.
Uly (35:12.442)
No, no, friend.
It was wild when I when I No, no, when When you got to put your burrito in a payment plan, you got to rethink your life right there
Ty (35:19.107)
Like how y'all say about ceramic chicken?
Gregory (35:21.325)
Like you got put you got put you know, too big back sort of payment plan
Gregory (35:31.701)
Like bro, no. Daniel lost it.
Daniel (35:31.995)
Hahaha!
Uly (35:32.278)
Yeah Put your burrito on a payment plan man. Is is that chipotle really worth it? Hold up. Hold up. You just imagine like
Ty (35:35.97)
Exactly.
Daniel (35:39.399)
Man.
Ty (35:40.174)
Chipotle, you thinking too high brow, Imagine you sitting there, you got your mid chicken, you ready. They tell you, they tell you 253 and your corner bounces.
Gregory (35:42.509)
Hahahaha!
Daniel (35:42.757)
You know... You know...
Daniel (35:51.396)
At some point you can't even be mad at these companies.
Gregory (35:59.278)
No!
Daniel (35:59.437)
Pfft, ha ha ha!
Gregory (36:03.797)
You cannot divide this up into five equal payments. Sorry.
Uly (36:03.832)
Fuck.
Ty (36:06.895)
of 253. Do you know how much five equal payments of 253, 253 cents is?
Gregory (36:12.173)
It bounces.
Daniel (36:12.519)
I don't know man McDonald's is kind of pricey now like one meal is like 15 bucks
Uly (36:12.856)
And then you just pay an extra 30 cents at the end of it. It's like.
Uly (36:19.258)
We were talking about it. We had the dollar menu. You could go to a Taco Bell with $5 when we were kids and get a full meal for you and a friend for $5. Now $5 gets you a drink. If that.
Gregory (36:29.1)
Yeah.
Daniel (36:29.627)
Yeah.
Ty (36:29.951)
NIBS.
Gregory (36:33.675)
And you know, we do laugh about it right now because we're not, you know, hopefully we don't see this future come to pass, but it's, it's the way things are heading that is going to be the unavoidable reality for a lot of people in the future. Because when you think about it, everything like we've always been talking about, everything is digital. Everything's a subscription service. If they could figure out how to charge you for air, they would. And literally, you...
They've locked everyone in to this never ending drain that sucks up money. And that's going to get to the point where people will have no choice but to do payment plans because to literally pay your bills are subscription. Your entertainment is a subscription. Your hobbies are a subscription. You can barely save.
Ty (37:26.095)
COVID ruined modern day society and made capitalists think everything needed to be a fucking subscription.
Gregory (37:39.649)
Subscription.
Daniel (37:40.487)
They just took advantage of the situation and then capitalized on it for sure. You know, it's funny, I read today that GMC and Ford are two of multiple automakers that plan on by 2029, 2030, they're going to offer subscription based services to use all the features in the vehicle, including radio, heated seats, and locking your car. And I'm not kidding.
Ty (38:04.398)
Yes.
Uly (38:07.564)
I don't believe that. I do not. I do not believe that that's total bullshit. You read?
Ty (38:07.691)
No, I know.
Gregory (38:07.789)
That actually was something that got mentioned before too.
Ty (38:12.075)
Mercedes, I think Mercedes already does it and BMW already does it, except for the radio.
Gregory (38:13.217)
BMW.
Daniel (38:14.703)
Yeah, because BMW had already done it. Now, we're not talking locking your car manually, but the button push and the keyless ignition, they're going to paywall all of it, or they want to.
Gregory (38:24.909)
Can you imagine getting off work, you done did a 12 hour shift, you're walking to your car, you're tired, and you go to open your door and it says deny because you did not pay your subscription fee for this feature.
Uly (38:25.21)
my god.
Ty (38:30.935)
your payment balance.
Daniel (38:39.897)
I think these car makers forgot that some of us grew up in a time where we could easily walk down the street and buy a new radio system and speakers and take the one out of our car and put a new one in it. Subscription the fuck out of here. What do you mean subscription?
Gregory (38:50.989)
Tell me you know what tell me I can't get in my car
Uly (38:53.998)
No, no, we grew up in a time... No! Look that! We grew up in a time when you had to take it out because you knew someone was gonna try to jack you!
Ty (39:02.319)
This is also true.
Daniel (39:03.449)
or I couldn't afford it for a while so I had a boombox in the backseat hooked up to two speakers.
Uly (39:03.746)
Yeah, yeah, put it in your...
Gregory (39:04.075)
Man.
Uly (39:11.204)
Hold up, we also had some, my God, some good sound systems growing up. The one where like, like the screen pops out and it shows you like an intro video.
Daniel (39:13.16)
Ha ha!
I'm
What tunes you like, baby?
Uly (39:23.002)
Man we That is still is the peak shut the fuck your big-ass screen on your car That's a distraction right there that CD player that eight disc player was the shit
Gregory (39:23.105)
And we thought that was the peak. That was the peak.
Daniel (39:31.431)
It really is. It's too much.
Daniel (39:37.393)
Like I'm not, I'm not above going back to burning my tapes and CDs and using that in the car. Like I'll do it if I need to. I'm not paying a subscription.
Ty (39:37.423)
Hey, hold on, hold on now. I like my big ass screaming.
Uly (39:46.308)
Dude, know, weapon out the CD, the little, you had the visor, CD carrier. just like, all right, you got Monday mix, Tuesday mix, freaky link. What are doing?
Daniel (39:56.231)
Yup. I even if I have to turn around and change it out of my six, I had one of those six CD change boom boxes while driving. Yeah. Get real fancy. I'll have a remote for it.
Gregory (40:00.75)
that while driving to while driving. That was the thing.
Uly (40:06.01)
my god
Hahaha
Ty (40:13.359)
I just want to point out, of all of us, the non-minority was the broke one. With the blue box on the back. We all did, but not that poor.
Gregory (40:21.013)
Yeah.
Daniel (40:24.218)
I grow up poor, man.
Gregory (40:28.678)
Hahaha!
Daniel (40:30.369)
I never knew my father.
Ty (40:35.743)
I always had my CD right there, 94 Civic.
Daniel (40:38.949)
It was actually a five disc change boombox. it was wired to two completely different speakers, by the way. They weren't even the same speaker. Hey, but it worked.
Gregory (40:41.506)
this.
Uly (40:53.626)
Oh, you remember buying like a new boombox and you had to like connect the speakers to the main system? Like it was like a like PUNK PUNK.
Gregory (40:53.965)
Hey.
Gregory (40:59.467)
Mm hmm. Yeah.
Ty (40:59.983)
Mm-hmm.
Daniel (41:03.701)
Subscription. Fuck you. I'll just put a new one in.
Gregory (41:06.221)
Speaking of speaking of subscription, one more thing on Sony, because Sony, they couldn't stop at one. They couldn't stop at two. They just went on a roll with bad ideas. Yeah, they're changing the PlayStation Plus subscription again. So that's the thing. They haven't said it's going to be a price increase, but they're not, they're changing the entire layout of it.
Uly (41:15.642)
Why the fuck you increase your price?
Daniel (41:24.795)
By how much?
Gregory (41:35.077)
So it's not going to be exclusive to gaming anymore. It's going to be an all in one of like their movies and gaming. Sony Core.
Ty (41:42.969)
They're Sony.
Uly (41:46.184)
Sony Media, bullshit, fuck off. Fuck off.
Ty (41:47.725)
Yeah, man.
Gregory (41:49.163)
And you know that means a price increase is inevitable.
Daniel (41:51.291)
All right. So what are they going to do about people that are already locked in because they already paid a whole year's worth for PlayStation Premium?
Uly (41:59.322)
They better upgrade us for not and not increase our price up until we have to pay for the next year.
Ty (42:02.031)
So if you, so just like before, right? Cause I used to pay for the whole year and then this is like the first time I didn't pay for a year, just in case. You don't, it does not affect you till your year runs out. Yep. So like, well, what people were doing that was slick and Sony caught wind of this fucking bastards. The first,
Daniel (42:08.326)
Mm-hmm.
Gregory (42:18.112)
your years up.
Daniel (42:20.091)
I might go ahead and re-up on it then. Yeah.
Gregory (42:22.731)
At least get one year.
Uly (42:22.732)
add another year to it.
Ty (42:30.927)
year and a half, had the PlayStation Plus subscription, like the new model. What Sony was allowing people to do was re up on the subscription as much as you wanted. Right. So what people ended up like some people ended up doing was stacking multiple years when it was still only like a hundred and ten dollars for the whole year. And they did it and they did it like 30, 40 times. So they
Gregory (42:43.329)
Mm-hmm.
Stacking.
Gregory (42:54.987)
Mm-hmm.
Daniel (42:55.501)
as they should have.
Daniel (42:59.655)
Okay, that's a bit much.
Gregory (43:02.317)
Yeah, and they would go and read and they were like, I'm good to like 2040 because I've stacked like 10 years.
Ty (43:02.388)
No, I'm, what I'm so serious.
Daniel (43:05.831)
They're good for the next six gen consoles.
Ty (43:10.499)
But people were doing that and Sony caught on and they were like, fuck no, you can't do this no more. I think it was 24 or 25 is when they caught wind and they were like, no, you can't do that. You can purchase it, but you can't stack it. So like if you make the purchase, it's a one time purchase and then it'll roll over for the next year, but you can't just like stack it like how you were before.
Daniel (43:36.144)
Do you know, did people get their money back?
Uly (43:39.576)
I think they just let...
Ty (43:39.757)
no, the people that stacked it, they're good. Shit's still there.
Gregory (43:41.825)
They're still good. They're contractually protected.
Daniel (43:45.14)
There's no way going into the PS6 or whatever is next that they're just going to...
Gregory (43:52.384)
What they'll probably do, what they'll probably do. Yeah, Sony is probably going to be slick because what they could do with the PS six is and they wouldn't be breaking their contracted agreement. They can make it where when the new system comes out, they don't have to give all the features to those people. Because it's a new system, it's a new generation, it's a new era, they could say,
Ty (43:53.005)
It's a contract. They either have to refund them.
Gregory (44:21.953)
there's new requirements to be met and people that are on the new plan get XYZ features. They could downgrade everyone without actually changing the tier. They could just say, hey, this tier shifted over to the right. What was the top tier that you paid for is actually now the middle tier. And the people who have the two did pay us what we wanted there now the top tier, they get all those features.
Ty (44:41.487)
The bell.
Gregory (44:51.489)
We're still honoring our agreement with you, but unless you upgrade, which actually sucks to be you, you really can't, because you paid for 30 years. So you would just lose that money. So what you gonna do? Lose the money and upgrade or wait out those 30 years at the middle tier.
Ty (44:54.415)
Mm-hmm.
Ty (45:02.414)
Mm-hmm.
Ty (45:15.022)
Mm-hmm.
Gregory (45:16.545)
So that's probably what Sony's gonna do. And that way they're not breaching contract. Yeah, so.
Ty (45:20.237)
Not trying to give them ideas.
Daniel (45:23.251)
I don't know if people are going be buying the next gen consoles because they're already both the new Xbox and PlayStation are projected to be around $1,200.
Ty (45:33.338)
So I do think the new Xbox is gonna drop prices. Because originally, when it was first announced, back with Phil and everybody else, they were saying it was pretty much gonna be a high-end PC. But with new leadership, I can honestly see them going, you know what? We're gonna make this affordable. And if they do that, I do think Sony will drop their price a little bit.
Daniel (46:01.351)
I feel like a lot of it will come down to the RAM situation in GPUs too.
Uly (46:08.684)
We here at Xbox understand that financial burden is a problem in the United States of America. So we have announced the new Xbox Klarna edition.
Gregory (46:18.379)
I'm telling you, that's the future of gaming,
Uly (46:18.874)
Thank
you
Daniel (46:22.907)
But you know what? Like that would be like a more understandable reason to use Klarna though.
Ty (46:23.39)
Speaking of, they actually, but they essentially are funny enough. They are working on a game pass that is exclusive to only Xbox exclusives. And it's supposed to be like their new lowest tier to where those exclusives, you build.
which exclusives you want and it's supposed to be like that lowest tier so that you don't have to pay for the whole 20 the now 22 dollars that you would pay for it
Daniel (46:59.143)
I mean, that's great in theory, but the problem is more of their exclusives are ass than not. they've really just let their studios and their games fall to the wayside to focus on four different games.
Ty (47:08.249)
Daniel.
Ty (47:12.364)
Can you?
Ty (47:16.281)
Sir?
Gregory (47:16.385)
This just makes me miss the classic days of just put your cartridge in your system, turn it on, get your friends, everyone plugs up their Bummy controller and have at it. Like I have never had more appreciation for my N64 and GameCube than I do right now because of the state of gaming. Like are the games getting bigger and nicer? Not always better, but
Daniel (47:42.609)
Dude, I... I just want them to fix Halo. Just... Fuck.
Gregory (47:46.51)
Yeah. But I forgot how simple it was to play games back in the day. I just put the game in, turn on no overwhelming menus, no, you know, because I get like overwhelmed by my game library now because I liked. Yeah. And I, yeah, I'm like, I, I just turn on and plays out of like easily flip the switch. Oh, didn't start blow the cartridge. Boom. solved. Now I'm playing Zelda.
Uly (47:49.338)
Fix, Halo.
Uly (48:03.595)
no, two hour update. Day one patch.
Daniel (48:15.271)
This man came back from Japan with like every state of the art gaming equipment known to man. Ridiculous.
Gregory (48:16.321)
Easy.
Gregory (48:19.885)
Oh, yeah. My N64 is the N64 I wanted as a kid. got transfer pack. I got the expansion pack. I and like the fact the game's like, oh, you've got an expansion pack now. You want to see enhanced graphics? And I'm like.
Ty (48:20.95)
He did.
Daniel (48:33.723)
Jesus Christ, comes with the ducks.
Ty (48:36.952)
Hmm
Gregory (48:38.733)
So I'm like, I'm living my best life right now. I healed my inner child.
Ty (48:43.385)
Speaking of not being healed on an inner child aspect.
Ty (48:53.133)
Yakuza. Uh-huh. Yep. Yep.
Gregory (48:55.117)
So,
Uly (48:56.058)
know what you're talking about. No, don't. Don't bring it up. Don't. No, we got to bury it. We we got to forget it.
Ty (49:03.649)
I mean, they're gonna bury it anyway.
Uly (49:06.604)
Are you gonna say you're almost done with the game, but you're like we need 44 million to finish it
Gregory (49:11.458)
Huh?
Ty (49:13.077)
you don't know. Okay.
Uly (49:14.745)
No, I don't want to.
Daniel (49:14.757)
No, I thought they were done with the game. didn't know that they were... Do they have a GoFundMe? That's a lot of money.
Gregory (49:14.785)
No.
That's what I thought too.
Ty (49:17.792)
No!
No!
Uly (49:23.194)
Someone buy them out?
Ty (49:23.343)
Okay, so NetEase, here's what happened, right? Gang of Dragons is essentially, hasn't been officially announced, but essentially canceled. NetEase was under the impression the game was done. NetEase was. The creators of Gang of Dragons was like,
Uly (49:26.127)
OK.
Daniel (49:44.421)
Wait, is this the game that they just showcased at the awards? that's embarrassing. my God.
Ty (49:48.072)
See, thin your. So they were like, we got this, this looks great. This is us getting away from Sega. We got our own studio. Nettie's got us with this. We're gonna do this, and this, and this. Look who we got in as the main character.
Uly (49:48.463)
Yes.
Daniel (49:56.432)
Holy shit.
Ty (50:11.347)
I was ready. Ready. And.
Uly (50:14.425)
I was there.
Daniel (50:16.347)
They showcased that game like it was ready, like it was complete. It looked, it looked cool.
Ty (50:20.139)
Uh-huh. And then, uh-huh. And then NetEase was like, all right, hey, cool. When we dropping this game? we need 44 million was what the team said. We need 44 more million.
Daniel (50:35.057)
They made a trailer and not a game.
Ty (50:38.625)
Not the first time, it is not a first. We need $44 million to complete this game and release it. NetEase was like, you need 44 what? Million, hmm.
Daniel (50:41.73)
They put it in the awards
Uly (50:42.799)
Cyberpunk.
Daniel (50:46.479)
my god.
Gregory (50:50.914)
Hmm.
Ty (50:53.507)
They proceeded. Everybody, do yourself a favor if you have no idea what I'm talking about. Google Gang of Dragons and then go to their YouTube page and tell me what you see.
Uly (51:05.005)
it's gone.
Gregory (51:07.245)
This is gonna be bad.
Uly (51:10.584)
I know what I'm gonna see.
Ty (51:12.272)
And I promise you, what you're gonna see is a whole lot of nothing. I don't know why you're gonna see it. They literally purged it.
Uly (51:18.2)
Yeah, because they removed it.
Uly (51:23.258)
Mm-hmm.
Daniel (51:24.058)
wow, yeah it's not here.
Ty (51:25.251)
Yep. YouTube channels gone, websites gone, hold on, yours.
Uly (51:26.264)
The channel's gone. The YouTube channel's gone.
Gregory (51:26.645)
Mmm.
Gregory (51:33.209)
Mmm.
Ty (51:33.519)
reason why is because they had no money left to complete it.
Gregory (51:42.923)
I mean, when you get an actor as big as him.
Uly (51:48.122)
That 44 million is just to pay him. That's it.
Gregory (51:49.837)
They probably spent their entire budget just to pay him.
Daniel (51:54.203)
What's baffling me is how it's costing them this much money to make a game.
Uly (51:55.672)
They do my man a disservice.
Ty (51:59.364)
But here's the crazy part. They essentially bitched about Sega being on their shit and they were like, y'all didn't let us release the Yakuza series how we wanted to keep releasing the Yakuza series. Cool.
Gregory (52:15.821)
but at least you got to release a Yakuza series.
Ty (52:18.979)
And with the Yakuza series, what kept happening was they did have guest characters in the Yakuza series, right? All throughout. Danny Trejo was in a Yakuza game. Did y'all know that? Pirate Island. Samoa Joe was also in a Yakuza game. Same game, actually. There are so many, so many guest appearances that you would never expect, right?
Uly (52:28.218)
Yep.
Uly (52:42.532)
Technically John Cena was in one too, but you just couldn't see him.
Gregory (52:48.813)
I'm so mad.
I'm so happy.
Uly (52:54.714)
Ha!
you
Gregory (52:58.445)
I'm disappointed I laughed at that just now.
Uly (53:03.104)
Yeah, that's funny Daniel's the only one not laughing
Ty (53:06.753)
I didn't laugh. I did not laugh.
Uly (53:08.888)
You're laughing right now motherfucker
Gregory (53:10.134)
You
Daniel (53:10.831)
I just, you know, it's typical. It's typical of these studios. Every year there's two, three, four handful of them that just keep doing this same type of shit.
Gregory (53:22.369)
Well, here's the thing that happens.
Ty (53:22.637)
I will never forgive them for not releasing the Highlander game in 2008.
Gregory (53:28.633)
And here's another issue that happens with a lot of these devs that separate from a studio. And I want gamers to understand this. We've got to stop putting people on a pedestal just based off of a game they worked on when you hear that they're going to start their own studio. I'm not saying that they can't make a successful game, but a lot of people get overhyped.
when a person says, this person worked on Grand Theft Auto. They were one of the writers. They were on the programming team. They're branching out and starting their own studio. Great, good. I love that for you. Go live your dream to make your own game.
Ty (54:14.147)
You count on one hand the success stories compared to the bust.
Gregory (54:20.531)
Exactly. And I'm thinking it sucks, but Yakuza and you know what? As much as my eyes is a dumpster fire of a game, at least it got out there.
Ty (54:26.755)
Yakuza is a super neat
Ty (54:34.603)
Yeah. So.
Gregory (54:36.085)
This didn't even get out the door.
Ty (54:38.999)
Nope. The success stories that I could think of that were like very lucrative successes. Destiny with Bungie.
Gregory (54:50.893)
until they burned it.
Ty (54:52.271)
Still a success story. Still a success. You got Destiny with Bungee.
Gregory (54:54.017)
but it's still a success story.
Uly (54:54.862)
Tell me bank.
Daniel (54:57.351)
Yeah, crashing and burning is still success. If they can't all that money they made and they date and they went on for like 10 10 years between Destiny one and two. 12 years.
Ty (55:00.911)
Mm-hmm.
Gregory (55:01.153)
Yeah. Yeah.
Gregory (55:09.057)
They actually have enough that they finally have started, they've actually finally started working on three.
Ty (55:15.129)
Yep. You have Clover Studios turning into Platinum Games. Well, Platinum slash Grasshopper.
Gregory (55:20.758)
Yeah
Daniel (55:23.495)
Clover Studios, is that the one that worked on? They worked on a... I thought they also worked on God Hand too, didn't they?
Ty (55:26.265)
Beautiful Joe and God hand.
Gregory (55:32.31)
Yeah
Ty (55:33.337)
I almost said something I cannot say in this podcast. I almost said something I cannot say in this podcast. I said Godhand and then you were like, yeah, they worked on Godhand.
Daniel (55:38.243)
Did they not? I thought they worked on it.
Uly (55:38.724)
Daniel, go stand in the corner.
He did say you just ignore you Really? Yeah Now you'll do yourself a favor go to your steam and accept a gift while Ty here talks about his stuff
Gregory (55:44.715)
Yeah. Yeah.
Daniel (55:45.0)
my bad, dude. My, my, my mind was, I was thinking, I'm sorry.
Daniel (55:54.023)
To be fair, took a nap today.
Gregory (55:55.672)
I was going to, know what? I will say politically correct way of for you, Ty. I say this is political Rick. Daniel channeled his inner. He channels his inner European.
Ty (56:08.333)
I heard a black man talking and tuned us out.
Daniel (56:10.543)
I know what you mean by that and fuck you. Look, besides like a kind of three-ish hour nap I had today, I've been up since yesterday morning, okay? I literally weigh on my on my blunders.
Ty (56:12.399)
You
Uly (56:13.173)
HAHAHAHA
Uly (56:25.05)
Three hour nap? Man, you slept well.
Ty (56:27.727)
Anyway, the original creator devil may cry with Bayonetta.
Gregory (56:29.419)
Man slept like a king according to you.
Uly (56:31.002)
you
Ty (56:40.607)
I deem that as a success story more than a fail.
Gregory (56:40.919)
Yeah.
Daniel (56:45.201)
But didn't they also work on Bayonetta? I'm kidding.
Gregory (56:45.994)
Bayonetta is a huge success story. It's a cult classic.
Uly (56:47.926)
It's a very big success.
Daniel (56:52.742)
Ahahaha!
Uly (56:53.082)
All right. Yeah. Yes, you can. It's just extra editing for Greg here.
Ty (56:54.639)
I cannot say the words I want to say. No, no, no, no,
Daniel (57:00.259)
I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
Gregory (57:00.885)
I'm not.
Ty (57:02.083)
it
I told him I will keep as hinged as I possibly can today. I've been rather hinged.
Gregory (57:12.589)
But no, you're right. Like the amount of success compared to flops, it's not even close to being even. Yeah, it's. a lot that, I won't put it all on the devs. I will say that's why I say gamers need to understand that just because certain people worked on a game that happened to become extremely popular does not mean.
Ty (57:20.345)
closed.
Gregory (57:40.088)
they're going to be able to recreate that, nor that they might even want to. We need to stop putting that unnecessary pressure on them just because they worked on GTA, they worked on Halo, they worked on this, they worked on that. They literally always wanna go in a completely opposite direction with their games.
Ty (57:45.635)
Mm-hmm.
Ty (58:01.38)
Yes. The last two, I was going to say, was the original director of Resident Evil when it came to the evil within. And then the most famous one is Kojima.
Gregory (58:10.77)
Mm-hmm.
Ty (58:17.091)
Kojima being the most famous one.
Gregory (58:18.859)
Yep. And you know, and here's the thing, Kojima. If we're just going to call space, Kojima success is literally because he's Kojima. Like his name alone carries weight and how many people he knows and associates with also carries a lot of the weight like Kojima is that guy that could just walk into a room.
Uly (58:21.21)
I was gonna just...
Uly (58:32.73)
Just the name alone.
Ty (58:45.571)
Mm-hmm.
Gregory (58:48.585)
in his pajamas, literally not have a care in the world, and everyone would just stand up and give him a standing ovation, and he would be like, he could just give a thumbs up and everyone would lose their minds and not even know why. Yeah. And.
Ty (59:00.579)
That man's name rings bells.
Uly (59:04.055)
I was gonna say, that guy basically made us play like a six hour movie with four hours of gameplay. I'm looking at you Death Stranding 2. love you, but you were a six hour movie with two hour gameplay. That's how I feel about it.
Gregory (59:13.889)
Ben, thing is.
Ty (59:17.167)
Well, and that's the funny thing. Death Stranding 2 had more gameplay than Death Stranding 1.
Gregory (59:17.215)
and we love it.
Then stress, yeah. And the thing is, we love it. We love it. And it's exactly, exactly. I'm not saying he's not a genius in his own regard, in his own way, but the man makes playable movies.
Uly (59:21.507)
Yeah.
Such a fun game, I don't know why.
Ty (59:37.091)
Yes, but we'll never delve into a movie. We'll never do it.
Gregory (59:39.777)
Yep Never make an actual movie and we are like, okay cool. Kojima's attached Sign me up sign me up
Uly (59:49.942)
I still think the biggest failure is in Gang of Dragons is still Concord.
Gregory (59:55.757)
You know.
Uly (59:56.394)
They came out from the bungee development team Firewalk studio had a bunch of people from bungee I would say because at least
Ty (01:00:02.671)
Mmm... I wouldn't say the worst one, but they're high up there.
Uly (01:00:09.358)
They're high up there.
Gregory (01:00:12.152)
you know what Gang of Dragons reminds me of? This is gonna hurt Ty.
Uly (01:00:14.628)
Which one?
Ty (01:00:17.273)
course it is.
Uly (01:00:17.594)
Do it.
Gregory (01:00:18.829)
scalebound. That's two times he's been robbed. That's two times he's been robbed.
Ty (01:00:20.003)
Fuck you.
I knew that's what he was gonna say. I knew that was what he was gonna say. Because guess what?
Uly (01:00:27.833)
fly.
Ty (01:00:31.289)
three.
Uly (01:00:32.333)
What's the update on that? It's still... no?
Ty (01:00:35.393)
It got canceled in 2019.
Uly (01:00:37.443)
Yeah, that
Gregory (01:00:38.273)
That game's never seen the light of day.
Uly (01:00:40.74)
Can we talk about how COVID fucked up our timelines?
Ty (01:00:40.834)
And it's because...
wasn't a COVID issue.
Uly (01:00:45.658)
No, no, no, no, I'm just saying 2019 still seems like it was last year. Yes.
Ty (01:00:47.446)
Gregory (01:00:49.973)
Yesterday.
Ty (01:00:51.855)
But it was, we're closer to 2029 than we are to 2019.
Uly (01:00:57.37)
I hate that you said it like that.
Ty (01:00:59.341)
Hey, I'm just saying. Mm-hmm. No. Fuck you about Scalebound, by the way. Scalebound hurts because Microsoft wanted it to be multiplayer instead of a single-player game, and that's what killed Scalebound. It was supposed to be a single-player game, and then they decided to add multiplayer to it. And Platinum Games does not have the funding to make a game like that.
Gregory (01:00:59.553)
Yep. Yep.
Uly (01:01:05.537)
Hahaha
Gregory (01:01:05.965)
You
Gregory (01:01:14.251)
Yep, because the studio was like.
Gregory (01:01:25.719)
Yeah.
Ty (01:01:27.331)
So when they asked Microsoft, hey, can we get some more money? Microsoft was like, nah, release what you got. Yo, y'all want it multiplayer. And that is what killed that game. So to this day, thanks for bringing up bad memories. Fuck you.
Gregory (01:01:36.781)
Yeah.
Gregory (01:01:43.566)
But my last Little bit of topic here before we wrap up the show because we think I said there was a lot going on and we went all over place in this episode That's how we like to do return episodes. I know day is gonna get a kick out of this one because when I sent him an article He was like how and I'm like, dude, I'm with you. I don't know how I I still need to watch the trailer but
Uly (01:01:56.576)
we went everywhere.
Gregory (01:02:10.795)
The craziest crossover to date in my opinion, Final Fantasy 14 and Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Uly (01:02:20.772)
That's not crazy at all.
Ty (01:02:22.807)
No, no. They mesh like peanut butter and hookers. That don't make no sense.
Gregory (01:02:22.837)
I do not.
Uly (01:02:24.409)
now.
Gregory (01:02:29.119)
How? How? I'm sorry, does no one remember the story of Evangelion?
Uly (01:02:30.122)
They really mix well.
Daniel (01:02:30.629)
How?
Ty (01:02:34.561)
I do, that's why I said they don't miss.
Gregory (01:02:37.279)
And now we've got Final Fantasy, like Final Fantasy XIV has gotten dark, but not anywhere close to Evangelion dark.
Uly (01:02:44.57)
I think it makes sense because a lot of people who still play Final Fantasy 14 are still big Evangelion fans. it's like, based on like not, I'm putting the story of everything on 14 and everything else. I'm just saying fan base wise makes sense. You're getting, you're Megan.
Gregory (01:02:59.117)
Yeah, if you if you just look into appease the fans sure that's any crossover You know cuz do we live in a crossover crazy era? Like you could say you could say stellar blade has a crossover with Bayonetta and we ever would be like yeah that works Yeah, but the story would make absolutely like how did that happen? But I'm like Final Fantasy 14 has done several crossovers
Uly (01:03:02.574)
Yeah, makes sense.
Uly (01:03:16.706)
No, I would lose my shit.
Ty (01:03:19.523)
different movements.
Gregory (01:03:28.845)
I kind of like, was like, it's weird, but it worked with Monster Hunter.
Uly (01:03:37.252)
I was gonna say Monster Hunter made sense to you.
Daniel (01:03:37.638)
Yeah.
Gregory (01:03:39.777)
But because, but with 14.
Ty (01:03:41.805)
Monster Hunter makes way more sense than...
Evangelion. Like way more sense.
Gregory (01:03:48.428)
Yeah, and here's that. And if I remember correctly, lore wise, Monster Hunter takes place not in the past, but actually in a future after we've pretty much like after modern society had already done modern technology and things got wiped out. So when you remember that, it's like, OK, that works because there would still kind of be. Remnants and ancient technology and.
Ty (01:04:01.392)
collapsed.
Ty (01:04:05.251)
Yes.
Gregory (01:04:18.519)
portals and magic and parallel universes. Okay, cool. That could work because Final Fantasy in its own story touches on that. That's how they were able to bring Geralt over because both of those worlds dabble into stepping through portals that take you places you should not be able to get to. I can get behind that. Evangelion, even with the movies and it's like, that's a whole extreme.
Because that's sci-fi. You gotta be careful with that.
Ty (01:04:53.529)
So like things that I feel like when mixed with Evangelion, Attack on Titan.
Gregory (01:04:59.339)
I can see that being a, that would make sense. That would absolutely make sense.
Ty (01:05:01.049)
weirdly would mix weirdly would mix lore-wise, shit didn't make sense but they weirdly mix well Kogyes and Gundam
Gregory (01:05:09.431)
Mm-hmm.
Gregory (01:05:15.605)
I could see that too. I could see that.
Ty (01:05:17.551)
Makes sense except the nightmare frames are literally ankle size compared to a Gundam. Besides the point, besides the point. But makes sense. 14 in Gaea, oh, well not Gaea, Jesus. 14 in Evangelion, it's just, huh?
Gregory (01:05:39.501)
I'm just saying, you got a little dark knight with his sword walking up to an angel like I'm about to throw some heads.
Ty (01:05:45.943)
and that angel proceeds to rain down hell.
Gregory (01:05:49.313)
That's what I'm saying. I'm like, I have to see how this this plays out because that is a crazy crossover.
Ty (01:05:56.76)
Not I, sounds like a terrible idea. Not like lore-wise, well, not like gameplay-wise, but like, lore-wise? That just sounds like hell.
Uly (01:06:00.78)
i thought
Gregory (01:06:08.276)
And how will you explain the characters that appear? Who's going to appear? Because first of all, main characters of Evangelion are all PTSD teenagers, for the most part.
Ty (01:06:21.653)
Yes. God, yes.
Uly (01:06:21.954)
Mm-hmm. You do very much so.
Gregory (01:06:24.81)
and you're gonna put them in the world of Final Fantasy XIV. These traumatized kids, unstable in this fantasy world.
Ty (01:06:31.479)
when raised the most stable.
Gregory (01:06:41.482)
What what And i'm sorry, but I don't see how that that that's gonna be how that's gonna play out
Ty (01:06:55.631)
Yeah, no, I'm rather confuttled.
Gregory (01:06:59.884)
I mean, like I said, I'm probably thinking too much into it. I'm not saying that the writers can't pull something and make it one of the best crossovers ever. All the crossovers that Final Fantasy XIV have had so far have been successes, and they've been fun.
Ty (01:07:03.51)
No, you're not.
Ty (01:07:14.595)
worked.
Uly (01:07:16.474)
They've been fun. Like that's, that's what they got to hit though. It's just got to be fun.
Gregory (01:07:21.356)
I'm just saying for me, that's like one day them saying, hey, Final Fantasy 14, crossing over with Berserk.
Uly (01:07:29.784)
I would love that. I would love that.
Ty (01:07:29.993)
no. I would...
Gregory (01:07:34.976)
Would the panties drop? Of course everyone's panties would drop, but let's also remember.
Ty (01:07:35.567)
Okay.
Ty (01:07:39.701)
No, no, because here's what would happen. It wouldn't be like beginnings of Berserk area. No, it wouldn't do that. It would be quite literally the eclipse. That's when they would do it. They're just like, no, you're going to have.
Daniel (01:07:39.769)
strangely enough yeah i i
Uly (01:07:47.802)
No.
Uly (01:07:54.382)
Mm-hmm.
Gregory (01:07:59.649)
You know what they could do if they really wanted to be, if they really wanted it to be dastardly, they could have it be right before everything happens to guts.
Ty (01:08:04.941)
Mmm!
Ty (01:08:18.937)
Sir, do you remember everything that happened to Guts? Okay.
Gregory (01:08:21.476)
Uh-huh. And if they wanted to like he come like he gets him in grit instead of like post guts and you're like It's like right before then and he gets sent over to the final fantasy world with Griffith And all the all the fans can do is know what's going to happen and not be able to prevent it
Ty (01:08:35.735)
He's happiest!
Ty (01:08:42.455)
His happiest time was when he didn't have Griffith on his ass because Griffith was in prison and he rammed a sword into a kid. That was his happiest life!
Gregory (01:08:55.724)
I'm just saying, you see, you see, and this is, this is all stemming from the Evangelion crossover. Now, if this works, all I'm going to say is at that point, I think what's happening is Yoshi is trying to see what, yeah, he's trying to see how far he can go. And if this works out, we're about to see some crazy crossovers in the future.
Ty (01:08:55.927)
Mm-mm. Mm-mm.
Ty (01:09:12.953)
He's trying to dip a toe.
Uly (01:09:25.902)
You know what?
Gregory (01:09:26.399)
Crazy.
Uly (01:09:28.602)
gonna say what I wanna say, I'm gonna save it for later.
Ty (01:09:30.147)
You know how wild it is, there is a PS4 Dynasty Warriors type of desert game that was tame compared to the manga. Band of Hawk, Band of Hawk. I see your neurons trying to do it.
Gregory (01:09:46.084)
Uly (01:09:51.993)
Literally.
Ty (01:09:54.563)
Yes. Yes. Something like that.
I own that game. And I'm gonna tell you, it's the tame version of Berserk. If you wanna learn about Berserk, play the game.
Gregory (01:09:59.903)
Yeah.
Gregory (01:10:07.584)
Yeah, it covers the lore really really well and it's yeah, they just yes take Yeah, and that's the other thing. I That's the other thing about Evangelion, okay, if you have Shinji in there first of all, if your character is a redhead hide your character
Ty (01:10:10.787)
without the rope.
Daniel (01:10:14.181)
Yeah, it's still wild to me that people want those skins and games for kids.
Uly (01:10:28.002)
or switch to a different one.
Gregory (01:10:28.044)
Switch to a different one I'm just saying if you know the story, can you seriously look Shinji in his face and be like, yeah, I want to I'm okay helping you
Ty (01:10:42.617)
No.
Uly (01:10:43.86)
helping you stab this knife through you.
Gregory (01:10:46.036)
Yeah, I'm just saying there's no the only character I could see them putting in there and people be like
Ty (01:10:46.756)
Yeah.
Gregory (01:10:56.46)
Okay.
Is Asuka herself?
Ty (01:11:02.991)
And even then there's an asterisk on that.
Gregory (01:11:05.244)
Exactly because the out del version of her was like fuck it Everybody can die So i'm like I gotta see how they do this I gotta see how they do this
Ty (01:11:11.745)
We bow.
Ty (01:11:21.677)
Like, what's next? Hey, let's do a tight-moving Final Fantasy crossover. Let's go for Gusto. Let's confuse everybody.
Gregory (01:11:32.916)
I'm just waiting for the Final Fantasy XIV Elden Ring crossover at this point.
Ty (01:11:37.827)
That makes more sense than the tight moon.
Gregory (01:11:42.144)
That's what I'm like, I'm like, at least that would work.
Ty (01:11:43.203)
Yeah, let's get to playing Tsukuyomi.
Daniel (01:11:45.103)
I don't know, Type Moon, know, there's, there's, hear me out, is Type, is Type Moon not a million different like, universes and versions of characters? I mean, certainly in some weird way, it could be a stretch to fit Final Fantasy in there somewhere.
Ty (01:11:49.487)
You
Ty (01:12:10.127)
Sir, bless Explains Tsukiyomi.
Daniel (01:12:14.96)
Yeah.
Gregory (01:12:17.708)
