Sony Deleted Your Movies & GTA 6 Has No Disc — You Don't Own Anything Digital

Sony just deleted 551 movies people paid for. No refund. No warning. Just gone.

Same week — Rockstar confirms GTA 6 ships with zero discs at $80. Code in a box. Digital license. Nothing you actually own.

These two stories aren't a coincidence. They're the industry showing you exactly how this ends.

Greg, Ty, and Uly break down the PlayStation StudioCanal purge, the GTA 6 digital-only decision, and why physical media matters more in 2026 than it ever has.

Sony just deleted 550 movies people pay for. No refund, no warning, no apology. And in the same week, Rockstar confirmed GTA 6 ships with zero discs at a new $80 price point. These two stories aren't a coincidence, they're a pattern. And today, on the GZ Chop Shop, we're talking about what it actually means to own anything digital in 2026. So

Greg (00:32.62)
I guess to almost no one's surprise but everyone's horror, Sony decided, hey, we're gonna jump on the bandwagon of doing some really messed up things and piss off a lot of people. So they send this unapologetic email to their PlayStation Store customers, notifying them that, hey, by the way, starting September 1st, 2026, 551 of your purchase movies and TV shows will be wiped from the libraries.

Thank you. And yeah. So here's the verbatim message. As of September first, 2026, due to our content licensing agreement, you will no longer be able to watch any of your previously purchased studio canal content, and the content will be removed from your video library. Thank you. And that's pretty much it. And despite the backlash, someone's been for the most part quiet because

Ty (01:04.821)
Because we lost a license.

Greg (01:30.467)
Let's just be honest, they don't care. This is nothing for them. And it brings a huge pain point to the forefront because this wasn't like it was a streaming service that's shutting down where people knew, hey, I don't actually own any of the things I'm watching. These people over years, up until Sony discontinued the ability to buy movies in what 2021? Yeah. So these are people that paid full price.

Ty (01:52.907)
Something like that. Yeah, it was during Covet.

Greg (01:59.447)
For what they thought was at least a digital ownership of the movie or TV show, series, you know, whatever they put their money in on. And then to be told, hey, we no longer have the license. So not only could you not buy movies anymore, but you also cannot keep the ones you did buy. tough luck, goodbye. And it's and these aren't like something, like some of the movies, they're like

Pretty well known movies like Terminator Two, Judgment Day, Total Recall, Apocalypse Now, From Dust Till Dawn, Highlander, Pan's Labyrinth, The Evil Dead, Evil Dead Two, and the first three Rambo films.

Ty (02:33.536)
Mm-hmm.

Ty (02:39.68)
So I'm just gonna point something out. This is why people stole from Redbox. I'm just gonna say it.

Greg (02:45.442)
No, this is a valid point.

Uly (02:46.218)
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I just stole the red box. What are you guys talking about?

Greg (02:52.32)
Again, a valid point. Because

Ty (02:54.526)
Like everybody sitting here saying go digital, go digital, go digital, and right, this is a pot meat kettle moment for me because like for those of you that don't know, when I was over in the western I mean not western eastern hemisphere where I was at, you couldn't really find anything physical game-wise in the game or movie-wise. And for me to make a purchase.

for a physical copy of a medium, I would have to purchase it on Amazon or purchase it from somewhere else, right? Amazon would ship it, but it would take about a month to get to me. If it was Best Buy or Walmart or anything else, it would take anywhere from the same amount of time like a month, or I had to send it to someone else to send to me. And then it would cost them like thirty bucks to send me a physical medium.

of whatever item I was trying to purchase. So I got really big into buying digital at that time because I didn't really have a choice. Right. I bring all that up though to say this. Digital media, you don't own this shit.

It is a matter of time and if someone wants to keep up with the license.

Greg (04:15.564)
And most of these companies are proving that they don't want to keep up with the licenses because one of the reasons that and we're just I'm just gonna call space bay. The reason all of these companies want to go digital is because they get to keep a hundred percent of the profit revenue from selling you the license. They don't have to do a thirty percent split with the stores, then they don't have to do they they basically are trying to cut out the middleman. They want a hundred percent of the profit. They

They charge the full price and they get to keep the entire revenue instead of having to split it. That's why they're making this strong push for digital consumption media. And then with the licensing, they know that most people aren't going to concern themselves with the legalities of licensing and how it works. The closest most people get to licensing is the music industry. And that's because during the Napster era up until current times.

music artists were very, very vocal about how their music was used. That's probably the extent most people understand licensing and and rights, is because music artists were not quiet about how their music was being used. When it comes to digital media and movie industry, that's more behind the scenes, lawyer to lawyer. So most of it we never see the light of day. We go to the store and the digital storefront, we see the word purchase

We see the word buy, we think it's the same thing as when you physically walk into the store and you bought your CD or you bought your movie. You think, okay, when I leave, this is mine. No one's going to come up and take that from you. But it's different. The digital storefront is not a purchase. It's not a buy, which they're changing the whole definition of those two words. It's false advertising in the first place by having purchase and buy as the button because you are not purchasing it. You are renting it. But they know if they use the word rent, yeah.

Ty (06:07.177)
It's a license for a key.

Greg (06:09.602)
You're renting a license to a license because they don't even have the right to it. So, but they know if they say rent or you know contract, no one's going to click that button. Therefore, they would lose the revenue. Therefore, their whole push for digital media would fall through. So they use the word purchase, they use the word buy to keep everyone coming in. But at the end of the day, at any moment, this can happen.

And while it's affecting movies, gamers need to take very seriously this is the first step before it comes to get it's actually already happened with games. We've seen it happen with EA games, we've seen it happen with Ubisoft games. The crew is one of the biggest ones in recent memory, next to Anthem. They basically were like, hey, thank you for paying premium. We really don't want to keep doing this game because it's not making us money. so we're just gonna kill it.

Ty (07:09.601)
We fire.

Greg (07:09.708)
And that's what yeah, and that's what created the whole stop killing games movement because when these companies act like and I I just wish people would stop cop you know cop and pleas for them and saying, well, it does cost yeah, I know holding a server space costs money and and it takes some financial investment to keep the servers up for certain games and stuff, but they're not poor. These companies are not poor, they are billion dollar companies.

Keeping that stuff up, they tell you it's super expensive because we can't fathom the numbers. We hear like 100,000 or 100 million, and we're like, yeah, that that's that's a lot of money. That's pocket change for these companies. That's chump change. But most of us will never see that kind of money a day in our life. So we see it from our perspective of damn, yeah, that's a lot of money. I don't know if I could keep a server running for a hundred million dollars. And then you've got Rockstar, who literally built GTA 6 for one.

billion dollars. They they can keep this stuff running. Yeah. They can keep the a yeah, exactly. And then make the money back immediately. So it's it's

Uly (08:11.562)
Made that back two days.

Ty (08:19.317)
Don't get me started on that. Well, we're gonna have to talk about it, but yeah.

Greg (08:23.276)
Yeah, I it yeah, we're gonna we're gonna get into a little bit of it, but it it's it's it's a mess and by physical, by physical and Sony

Uly (08:28.308)
We keep saying buy physical. We keep saying. Crunchyroll. I watched you. I bought physical. I buy my my seasons now. Like if I like a show, I'm buying the disc. Doesn't matter how much. If I really like it, I know Crunchyroll isn't gonna be here forever. You know what might be here forever? The disc.

Greg (08:50.018)
disc. And there's so many people out there that have the skills to repair this stuff, to fix the machines, to fix your Blu-ray players that they they learn these skill sets to keep physical media alive.

Ty (09:03.167)
I regret not sending you guys this article where they were talking about that, right? Where people where the tech industry saw a like large percentile increase of Blu-ray purchases and Blu-ray player ownership because of recent events. Like, why would I purchase something digitally? And then next thing you know, I get told, hey.

Love that for you, but sorry, Pookie, you can't keep what you paid full price over. and you won't get a discount because you used this. Or you won't get a refund at all. Like even though you haven't even though you played it, we took it off from you, so we cannot give you your money back because you attempted to play this one time.

Greg (09:59.991)
Yeah. And you know, even just personally speaking, from a collector's standpoint, I like physical media because sometimes I just like to admire when I look at my shelf, I see the years. And and sometimes yes, depending on what the game is. But honestly, I look at the I look at the shelf and I see my childhood to adulthood. The games that I've had since I was a kid.

Uly (10:13.846)
Teddies.

Ty (10:18.935)
Yeah.

Uly (10:20.512)
Yeah.

Greg (10:28.32)
Up to the games that I have now, and I see my history. I see how I've evolved as a gamer. I see how I've evolved as a person, how I went from a certain genre to another genre to another genre, and then come back to where I started. It it's it's a it's a nostalgic historical thing. And I can look back and I'm like, yeah, I I was there for that. That was awesome. Those were the good days. This was great. Like I fire up my N64 and I'm a kid again. I fire up my GameCube, I'm a teenager again. So

That's something I don't get from my, you know, my digital library. Like now I look at my digital library and I'm like, when is this going to disappear? When when is Sony gonna say, hey, we don't have the license to this anymore? Hey, we don't want to do business with this company anymore. And that's already happened with certain games where they'll have a falling out with a developer, and the developer will have to tell the community, hey, our game is getting pulled from Steam. It's getting pulled from

PlayStation because we couldn't come to an agreement. And then it's exactly. And it's like you know, you leave an entire community hanging, and they're like, okay, well, do we get anything for this? And it's just like, no. Yeah. And PlayStation is and you know, for anyone who ever thought all we did was bash on Xbox, you obviously don't see all of our episodes because this is where one of the points as a Sony fan, Sony has really pissed me off.

Ty (11:29.525)
Knockout Kings.

Ty (11:42.303)
You had a pat on the back.

Greg (11:54.989)
And they've actually been on my bad side for a while because now they're doing this crap. And not that long ago, I think what, maybe we're at a year now, that they've killed their point system.

Uly (12:07.04)
Yeah.

Ty (12:07.085)
the PlayStation Star system? Yeah, it was about it. It was about a year ago. And then it's like finalizing now, here in a couple months. Like whatever per s whatever points you have remaining, if you don't use it by I wanna say it's end of July, maybe August, they're they're gone. And it's November. Okay.

Greg (12:08.558)
Yeah.

Uly (12:28.852)
November second.

November second, the you will stop earning levels and points July twenty-third. November second, it's fully shut off.

Ty (12:37.707)
That's what it was.

Which is crazy because Playstation Stars was a toned down version of the other point system they had beforehand that no one really paid attention to because you had to log into the fucking Sony's website instead of the PlayStation website.

Greg (12:55.8)
Mm-hmm.

Greg (12:59.308)
Yeah. And it makes no sense because they'll say that it was costing them a lot of money. And I'm like, okay, well, when you created it, you didn't you can't tell me that your team didn't tell you, hey, you know, we're gonna have to take a potential revenue hit to make this. there are gonna be be people that game the system, that's inevitable. There's unfortunately there's gonna be people that game the system. But right, but the majority of your users are not going to have

Ty (13:21.279)
Looking at you, Best Buy. bitches.

Greg (13:29.132)
The energy to gain the system. So, for those few people that do, you pretty much were like, they costed us a hundred grand, so woe is us, we're gonna cancel the whole thing. And that's why I'm saying you cannot say that they don't have the money because they ran the all the the you know PlayStation Star system, and people loved it because.

I had incentive to buy from the digital storefront. Yes, I knew it was a rental, but I was like, okay, I buy a couple of games. This game I'm really looking forward to, or this DLC, comes at a discounted price. I felt like I was kind of getting something, even if it was really nothing. I was like, at least I'm getting something for the effort. Something in return. But now you and and Nintendo's done it too. They all killed their point system. I think Microsoft's the only one that still has a point system of sorts.

Ty (14:15.841)
Something in return, yeah.

Greg (14:25.422)
but Nintendo and Sony killed it, and then they're basically like, you're just pay pay full price, that's it. No, no incentive, no reward. and by the way, we can kill the game whenever we want. And the problem is

We all agree to it because none of us read the end user licensing agreement. And the thing is, it's not even per game. The games just add another layer to it. It's actually from the moment you hooked up your PlayStation and you agree to their EU LA. That when you scroll through, it basically says that they themselves reserve the right to just pull any games from you that you buy through their storefront.

Ty (14:49.376)
I'm praying.

Greg (15:13.158)
And they basically said, Hey, we can do it without warning, and you can't get upset at us. Because if you agree, you you're, you know, you said it's okay. But the catch is if you're not okay with it and you actually read through it and you're Well, I'm not okay with this, you can't, yeah, you can't use the system. So then it's like, okay, well, I bought the system, I don't find this out until I

Ty (15:32.415)
You can't play the system.

Greg (15:41.816)
bought the system, I get the system home, I plug it up, then you're telling me I have to agree to this bullshit agreement.

Ty (15:48.694)
Mm-hmm.

Greg (15:50.392)
for the system I already paid you for. And if I don't want to agree, I can't use the system.

And I'm like, you know, and this is this is the mess that we're in because I'm like, look, I feel like you, you know, that stuff should be up front. Like, show me before I purchase NCART that specific part you know, before buying. It's like, by the way, to use this hardware, you will have to agree to this. But they won't do that because then they know that their sales would tank. Their sales would tank so fast.

Ty (16:28.991)
And all they continue to do is raise prices. Like, god, dude. The rumors are nasty. That's all I'm gonna say for right now.

Greg (16:31.864)
Exactly.

Greg (16:37.806)
And the other that's another gripe that I have, especially when it comes like to the to the gaming industry. Just everything as a whole. Everyone likes to throw around the word inflation and things would from back 20 years ago would actually be more expensive now. And I'm like, okay, can does no one understand the concept of why things actually price of things go up? It's not some hidden entity that suddenly makes a price go up. Someone wakes up one day. Shareholders.

Rich peek people, they wake up and they go, I want more money. Raise price.

Uly (17:13.792)
Damn, I only made ten million in profit last year. Let's try to bump that up to twelve.

Greg (17:18.296)
That's exact it liter literally. Literally. And then they say, now how do we make a legal word to explain this to cover our asses? So that everyone just nods and goes, Yeah, that makes sense. That's that's all it is. That's literally all it is.

Uly (17:21.686)
And that's a low number.

Ty (17:33.226)
huh.

Uly (17:36.225)
That's all we talk about. We talk about these corpos, man. They like fuck. I work for a corporation and trust me, every time I talk to people that are above me a little bit, the shit I hear about when Corpor comes down and corporate came down recently. fuck, I hated them. They're like, Are you sure you can't do this better? I'm not paid to do it better.

Ty (17:56.875)
Mm-hmm.

Uly (18:00.884)
But you work here. We're paying you to do this. You're paying me to do my job description. That's extra. I'm not getting paid for that. Why would I do that? Because it's 'cause you work for us. Get somebody else. Yeah, fight somebody else to do it. Pay somebody a fair wage to fucking do that. I ain't doing it. Well, what if we threaten your job? That's illegal. That's not in my job description. You have an HR. We have legal rights. Fuck you.

Greg (18:05.91)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Ty (18:09.771)
Well just get somebody else to do it.

Ty (18:22.207)
Mm-hmm.

Uly (18:27.523)
It it it turned down. It like the fact that I was able to say, Fuck you, still keep my job made me so happy.

Greg (18:27.544)
So

Greg (18:36.29)
Because they knew you were right.

Ty (18:36.481)
A win's a win.

Uly (18:38.408)
It was a legal right. Like that's not in my job description. It's not written in there. I'm not getting paid to do it. So fuck you.

Greg (18:44.408)
Yeah. So all this to say, people, buy physical. I know digital is convenient. There's pros and cons to each. Very understandable. But at least with the physical media, you will still have access to the game. And there's a huge myth going around because and Nintendo's Yeah.

Uly (19:06.326)
It takes a bigger act of God to destroy that. A bigger act. House fire, robbery, whatever. A bigger act of God than some corporal going, let's just remove it.

Greg (19:14.848)
Right. And and I do want to like clear the air on a big myth that was going around for a while. And I think a lot of people still believe it because Nintendo has those game key cards. So f because they initiated that, a lot of people are thinking that even PlayStation Xbox, their discs are just glorified CD keys. but that's only few and far between. And by few and far between, I mean like less than like probably a hundred games in total actually have that.

Most of the games are copying the data from the discs. So the disks do have the game data, and they're copying it to the system.

Uly (19:51.05)
To a point, the day one patches, that just makes it work.

Ty (19:51.232)
And for those of you that don't know how that's there's a good example of that. Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy and Red Dead, they both have that exact thing. That's why you have two discs. Actually, most gaming companies could make your life easier, put two discs in there, pop one in that's the data data discs to load everything up, and then boop, game already restarts, right? But because of

digital formatting and media and everything else like that. That's why you get a day one update. You put the game in, it reads online and it's like, yeah, let me let me prioritize your game for you real quick. And that's where you get those day one updates. But the game is actually on there.

Greg (20:38.542)
So do not be scared to buy your physical media and keep it relevant. So, you know, right. But because that that could be a whole episode in itself, but you know, be impressed for time. We gotta move on to the second topic, which is GTA 6 going digital only.

Ty (20:45.793)
Beaches.

Ty (20:57.761)
Fuck all of you idiots. I'm just gonna say it.

Uly (21:01.29)
Hold up. I just want to point I just want to point out one thing. Hold up. Hold up. Before you say anything, I just want to point out to all the scalpers that probably bought digital copies. I love you.

Greg (21:09.896)
Mm. Mm-mm.

Ty (21:12.011)
Here's the thing, right? I can't get mad at the scalpers because there's certain countries that you cannot purchase GTA 6 on. Certain. Few and far between. But there are certain countries. So these scalpers, like I said, can't get mad at you. You're being smart. You just purchased this game for God knows how much. Right? You wasted how much money for this digital key and you were like, hey, I have a copy. You gotta pay me extra.

Uly (21:34.27)
On a digital game.

Ty (21:41.762)
There's streamers, well-known streamers, that are like, hey, I will give y'all an extra large sum of money if you let me pay this early. Y'all make me sick. God, y'all make me sick. And the whole reason they're doing an only digital version. Yes, I'm pissed at Rockstar. Their reason for only doing digital makes sense. Sadly. And I hate to shoot them bail on this.

They're doing only digital so someone can't steal a copy of the game early to play online early. That is why. Because you fucks decided, hey, I have a hookup. I'm just gonna fucking leak this game online. Durga der g.

Greg (22:17.208)
Mm-hmm.

Greg (22:30.924)
And it sucks because they're we gave them the perfect excuse to play in the digital in that digital hemisphere. Because I'm like, this comes full circle where I always say sometimes we are our own worst enemy as gamers. We are our own worst enemy. and we create a lot, we they lay the bait and they sit back and they just wait for us.

Ty (23:00.919)
Mm-hmm.

Greg (23:00.92)
To give them the excuse. And it's like, look, see, look what they did. This is why we have to go digital. Yada yada yada. And you know, here we are. But what's adding insult to injury is that physical version that exists with the very bulky response when they said, a physical version will be available in future months.

And it's like very blocky wording, and people were hopeful saying, okay, so there's going to be a physical disc. No, what was actually found out is that physical version that they were referring to is that empty box with a digital code. And in future months was not in reference to the November 19th release date, but from when they made that announcement of when GTA 6 was going to launch. That's what they meant.

So there is not going to be a physical version. This will be a digital only version at a premium price of eighty dollars for the standard, a hundred dollars for the ultimate edition, and you know, all the please.

Ty (24:14.443)
Can I can I can I say something about that?

Do you know how sleazy you gotta be to lock half not well I shouldn't say half a quarter of your game story, a chunk of shops, chunk of content behind a paywall?

Ty (24:37.395)
in the elitism that is going to come from people knowing, you only purchased the $80 version. The chunk of people that's gonna know that.

Uly (24:51.422)
I'm sorry, you can't hunt gators? Sounds like poor.

Ty (24:54.857)
Like, it's my broken here. It's gonna happen. Someone is

Greg (24:57.79)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Well Yuli, didn't you see the poor? Well didn't didn't you did you find what was the numbers from pre orders?

Ty (25:02.358)
It's me.

Uly (25:02.838)
what, you can't visit this auto shop? Poor.

Uly (25:13.015)
it was like three six point nine b million or something like that. send I sent it to the boys. I sent it to the boys. Hold up. I we were talking about it too.

Ty (25:16.491)
Yeah, it's high. It's high as fuck.

Greg (25:22.286)
This is what I mean by we

Uly (25:23.572)
Yeah, yeah. Thirty-nine million pre orders and it surpassed three point seven billion, I think it was. They they tripled their money off of pre orders and loan. The game ain't even out, y'all. Also, still no guarantees coming out of November.

Greg (25:34.072)
So

After pre-orders.

Ty (25:39.68)
What if

Also, we still haven't seen gameplay.

Uly (25:44.468)
Yep, no gameplay either. We've seen cutscenes.

Greg (25:49.836)
What a joke it would be to find out that there was no game. They moved the date and then they used the money they just made to actually finish making the game.

Ty (26:01.867)
Don't do that to me because that's how I feel about Gang of Dragons.

Uly (26:03.924)
I wanted that.

Greg (26:05.407)
All I only reason I say that is because if you guys who are strictly consul do not know what Star Citizen is.

Do yourself a favor. As a star citizen player, do yourself a favor.

Ty (26:16.535)
Y'all got fleeced. Yeah got fleeced.

Uly (26:18.722)
look, hold up, hold up. I was gonna say I was gonna say Star Citizen is a better version of what was that Bethesda one? I already forgot the name. Starfield, thank you. Yeah. You're getting ripped off on both of them, but at least one has, so it's a lot more fun.

Greg (26:29.125)
Starfield.

Yeah.

Greg (26:36.449)
Yeah. Do yourself a favor and look at how long just look up Star Citizen and the history of Star Citizen. It's it's

Ty (26:41.143)
Star Citizens Beta.

Uly (26:43.406)
dude, that is a scam. It was a w a scam we all fell for. my bad. The scam three fourths of us fell for in this group. We have one missing brother right now.

Greg (26:47.745)
Yep.

Ty (26:48.113)
Who's all?

Greg (26:54.603)
Yes. Yes. So do your do some homework and look up Star Citizen. That could be a entire podcast episode as well. We're not

Uly (27:03.951)
I also want to point out some of us here like that game so much they bought, you know, the the kit to fly their ship better.

Greg (27:14.497)
That was me. That was hundred percent me.

Ty (27:16.279)
At least you owned up to it, buddy.

Uly (27:17.538)
These two owned. He uses that for other games now, but hey.

Greg (27:22.219)
Yeah, yeah. I was like, Well, I guess I'll be learning how to pilot mechs with this thing. But yeah, I I got suckered into it. And that's also when I learned I was like, Yep, I contributed to the problem. So when I say this stuff, I'm speaking from experience. It's not like I'm pointing fingers and being like you, you like, no, I contributed to the problem. That's how I know we are part of the problem.

Uly (27:44.374)
Do you imagine when Ubisoft will start going after people who have disc versions of the crew when they told everyone to burn him? Destroy him?

Greg (27:52.12)
They can try they can try. They can try. I I will happily advertise my copy every episode. It's right here. I'm about to take out my whole shelf. But come and get me, Ubisoft. Come and get me, because I ain't throwing it away.

Uly (28:02.198)
'Cause that's what we're talking about. It's like deleting digital content.

Ty (28:06.263)
You know what they're gonna do? They're gonna never mind, I can't say that that would get us flagged. No, no, it'll get us flagged. It was like the one joke I made that one time and the the AI caught it and yep, nope, nope, not doing that. I I really thought about it.

Greg (28:09.025)
Set.

Uly (28:10.484)
Say it. Say it. Come on. Say no fa.

Ha ha ha.

Greg (28:16.761)
yeah. Yeah. No.

Uly (28:19.158)
God. Right.

Greg (28:25.289)
I will consider if I get a letter from Ubisoft, I will consider that a win. I will that will mean I've made it enough to be even worth their time. Cause that was not an agreement I signed. That I don't remember them saying I had to destroy my copy. I don't remember that. Sorry, you're you're not my parent. But yeah, digital daddy.

Ty (28:25.619)
Inside jokes, people, I'm sorry.

Uly (28:28.692)
Watch previous episodes.

Ty (28:45.387)
You do.

no Ubisoft is your daddy.

Uly (28:51.87)
Ubyself

Greg (28:54.859)
But the the these two stories show a really big issue because is is Rockstar going anywhere anytime soon? Probably not. Will GTA online you know die? Probably not. But that's the key thing. Probably. There's no surely it won't, you know. It's who knows when? You know, we might be everyone's hoping for it to last indefinitely. Yeah.

Ty (29:22.513)
Ever and ever.

Greg (29:25.321)
And and not every game's going to be a World of Warcraft. Not every game's going to have an online comeback like Final Fantasy XIV. A lot of games just cease to exist. The servers just stop. And if and I think if Rockstar for some reason doesn't make the same amount of money off of GTA 6 online that they make off of GTA 5 in a time frame that they

Uly (29:39.2)
involved.

Greg (29:52.531)
find reasonable and those windows get very small.

Uly (29:53.973)
I mean if we're looking at the numbers right now that they've received, it's gonna do better than what they expect.

Greg (30:01.965)
But that's the thing. To us, three point five billion is a lot. To the shareholders that kicked this whole thing off, that's not enough.

Ty (30:09.463)
That's not enough because you gotta think it cost them two billion to make. That doesn't include advertising, that doesn't include packaging, all this other shit, right? It costs them two billion to make. So they're gonna try to break even as much as possible.

There's part of me that wish it would fail. Granted, I love GTA. I do. I'm not purchasing this shit till the price goes down.

Uly (30:35.422)
По

Greg (30:41.943)
I'll wait eight years. I don't care. I got no problem. I'll wait eight years.

Ty (30:43.831)
I don't know about all that. I I don't know about that one. I don't know about that one, Chief.

Greg (30:49.033)
I look, I made it this far. I made it this far without having without caving into GTA V. So personally, I know I'll be okay. I'm like, I've got a a library of well over 500 video games. I I'll I'll I'll be okay. But if

Uly (31:10.728)
I fell for it. I paid for the hundred dollar version. I ain't gonna lie to you guys. I got it, yeah.

Greg (31:13.484)
And you know it

Ty (31:13.589)
You already did it?

Greg (31:16.555)
And h and the thing is it's like, look, if if that's your game, I don't

Ty (31:16.643)
no.

Uly (31:18.749)
I may I may talk shit about it, but I'm gonna I'll say I got it. I I'm hype for GTA.

Ty (31:24.053)
Well, the thing is th out of all the games that are releasing this year, as like in the middle of my poll, right?

Uly (31:31.622)
That's another thing. I don't have that many games that I'm excited for. It's probably one. I know you sent us it. I'm like, I can tell this guy was having it.

Ty (31:35.999)
Almost that it this morning over one.

Ty (31:43.733)
Breaked up like I was in Tijuana.

Uly (31:47.083)
But no th the the thing is, it's like for me there's only like two, three games that I'm o only excited for for the rest of this year. Because of how expensive they are, just as soon as I see the price I'm like I I can only be selective of the games I want. And GTA six was one of them.

Ty (32:00.994)
Fair.

Greg (32:06.773)
And see and see for you, because I'm assuming you got it for PC.

Uly (32:12.222)
No, I got it for play. There's no PC D Yeah, it's PS5. Yeah, not the PC version won't come out till later, later on, and for that one, I'll f I'll gladly wait for a Steam sale.

Ty (32:14.091)
There's no PC version. Yeah, no.

Greg (32:14.557)
that's right. That's right. There is no PC version. That's right.

Greg (32:25.525)
Right. Yeah. Mm.

Uly (32:26.422)
'Cause I'll have it on my PS five. Fuck it. I'll wait for the Steam Steam sales Yeah, no, this is all console.

Greg (32:29.311)
So just off the console community, they made three good grief.

Ty (32:34.017)
Yep. Remember they're not ready to release it on PC because mods. They they don't want that.

Greg (32:42.443)
I was just about to say I d

Uly (32:43.636)
as soon as those mods come on. Ooh.

Greg (32:49.089)
Yes. That's a whole nother conversation too, because I'm like Wow.

Ty (32:52.245)
Like like I already know 'cause somebody's gonna do it because prime example, yes, we're selling Pride Month and I acknowledge Pride Month, right? Somebody is going to be on a hate fest when that game comes out. I didn't I didn't

Uly (32:55.357)
All that's right I can't get on PC.

Uly (33:09.618)
Okay, don't call me out like that and it's not hate fist. I'm doing it indiscriminately to everyone gets it.

Ty (33:15.475)
No no no no no. I mean like literal people that read flaming crosses and all.

Uly (33:18.493)
I know what you mean.

I've seen I've seen the X posts.

Ty (33:26.059)
Yep.

Uly (33:27.222)
I've seen it. I was like, ho, you guys are thinking small. Everyone getting it. The whole city burning down.

Ty (33:36.779)
I mean, it's based off of Miami, so I mean are we really surprised? Sorry, I love Miami. Don't don't get it fucked up. I lived there before. I love Miami. But mm, it is Florida. Eventually something's gonna burn.

Uly (33:41.087)
It's already burned down.

Uly (33:53.697)
they better have random meth heads running around in that game. Just just give us that. Exactly. Like give us I wanna be ch like chased by someone that's naked on bad salts.

Ty (33:56.562)
It's Florida, sir.

Greg (34:07.197)
We'll see some gameplay.

Ty (34:10.657)
Mean Yeah.

Greg (34:11.255)
Period.

Uly (34:12.19)
They should have released a trailer by now. That that should have been a thing. Yeah.

Greg (34:14.839)
Yeah, we still haven't gotten a third trailer.

Ty (34:15.787)
So hold on. I I I'm wanna ask this before we cut off and everything else like that. Because I don't remember this far back because I was like struggle fucking at the time. What I mean by this is like I was doing way too much in the year of twenty eighteen. Did Red Dead Two have a gameplay trailer before its release? It did? I I don't remember, that's the thing.

Uly (34:41.172)
Yes. It did.

Both Red Dead and GTA 5 had the same woman telling us gameplay and how the game plays out about seven months before the game released. I remember the voice. I remember the girl talking. Yeah, we were supposed we were supposed to have one already. If anything.

Ty (34:55.872)
Okay.

Ty (34:59.88)
so we do. We did do.

Greg (35:04.833)
Yeah. We got two official trailers for GTA six.

Uly (35:09.31)
And what was the the gameplay trailer for Red Dead Two come out b before the game? It's like that's gotta be like seven months. I remember it hyping me up.

Greg (35:18.571)
Mm-hmm. And I just looked it up. Red Dead Redemption 2 officially received two distinct standalone gameplay trailers during its marketing campaign. August ninth, twenty eighteen, and October first, twenty eighteen.

Uly (35:33.28)
So that of twenty eighteen. Yeah, about a month.

Ty (35:33.343)
When did it get released? Was it November twenty eighteen?

Greg (35:39.233)
I believe so. Find out so the keyboard warriors don't get upset at us. Yeah, because you know they'll they'll be really upset. October twenty sixth, twenty eighteen.

Uly (35:46.63)
especially these rock star ones.

Ty (35:48.983)
Shut the fuck up.

Okay. So if by August we don't see a gameplay trailer.

Uly (35:55.06)
Yeah. So we've still got time.

Greg (36:01.291)
And that's the thing. They yeah. Okay, yeah. Because okay, so they got till August. If they're following Red Dead Redemption 2, they did Oc August and October. So yeah, they got what a little over a month.

Ty (36:14.025)
Yeah. So the reason I ask is I like to me I remember Red Dead just kinda like dropping. Cause I pre ordered it. I remember pre ordering it. I remember walking in game stop, whole nine yards. A game I missed playing, but I shall not.

Greg (36:23.596)
Mm-hmm.

Ty (36:32.809)
Long complicated story. But yeah, no, I don't remember a gameplay trailer. I just remember it kind of going Yahtzee and then

Uly (36:41.396)
Yeah, it's kind of the same thing because I'm looking up for Grand Theft Auto V. Their gameplay trailer came out in July and the game released in September.

Greg (36:49.547)
And Red Dead Retemption too apparently had a lot of they had three official cinematics and the two gameplay.

Ty (36:55.625)
Yes. I remember the cinematics. I do remember the cinematics.

Greg (37:01.611)
Yeah. So GTA six is already far behind if if you're comparing it to Red Dead.

Uly (37:08.79)
Yeah, 'cause we only got two trailers and a bunch of screenshots.

Greg (37:12.406)
Mm-hmm.

So I don't know. That's that's a bit that's still concerning to me. Like I'm saying, like if you like the game, I'm not saying don't buy the games you love. I wouldn't like anyone telling me not to buy the games I love. My issue is we have to make these companies and these studios understand that we don't all just want digital media. We also Yeah, we also want physical media. So

Ty (37:22.167)
Mm-hmm.

Uly (37:36.192)
Bongy. No, it's for a different reason.

Greg (37:44.341)
Like if GTA six had and they weren't being a smart ass about it, because honestly, I feel like that's just a smart ass move they're making, like

Uly (37:52.105)
I hope GT six is the only game that does this. It but it it's gonna start a wave or some game or No, they're

Greg (38:00.202)
If people buy it, if a content creator, here's the other issue. And I get it, they get contracts and they get sponsorship. Some content creator somewhere is going to get a free boxed digital copy. They're gonna have they're not gonna they may say they got it for free, but if they're not obligated to, they're gonna make it sound like they bought it. It only takes one content creator with a mass following to have a physical copy of GTA 6 to have everyone go, my favorite creator has one. I want one.

Ty (38:30.487)
Mm.

Uly (38:31.314)
I have more views than my favorite creator.

Greg (38:31.703)
People are gonna buy it.

Ty (38:33.705)
I'm not gonna point out what a content creator said 'cause one, I don't fuck with this person. Two, I'm not giving them free advertisement, even though they have all the advertisement in the world. But somebody said, Yo, I will purchase a a copy for GTA six early and I will give y'all a large sum of money if y'all let me play that bitch early.

Like unfortunately and fortunately at the same time, it's gonna be a success-wise game. And it's gonna be a streamer's wet dream of a success story, right?

Like it it's a digital content playground, and you're gonna try to be the first one to get your content out. It it's right there. It's just a nasty process. Yes. Yes. Someone's gonna beat that game. I promise you, someone's gonna beat that game in six hours.

Uly (39:28.53)
Is it gonna be oversaturated too fast? The content is definitely gonna be oversaturated too fast.

Greg (39:42.594)
Yeah, because that and you know, not to go off on a huge tangent, but yeah, because a lot of people they they don't play for the story, they play for the clout. so they're gonna just be skipping through cutscenes and they're gonna be trying to upload their videos. And that's the whole re you know, and that's why I say GTA's reason for digital is twofold. One makes it sound like they're looking out for the gamer. We don't want it spoiled for you. But the other one is the same reason.

Ty (39:42.784)
If then.

Greg (40:12.097)
That Sega won't release the song from Stranger Than Heaven. It it's the same it's literally the same reason.

Uly (40:17.814)
Stranger than heaven.

Ty (40:19.978)
yeah.

Uly (40:23.064)
you know what, you're right, 'cause I'm still trying to like I've seen I've listened to like four different versions of the song. People mash together. Yeah. Yeah, the one they mash together with all the trailers they released. I'm like, I gotta you say you mother you gotta release it. Just give us the song.

Ty (40:30.103)
The one with Tori Kelly? Yeah.

Greg (40:31.618)
Mm-hmm.

Greg (40:40.151)
Yeah. And the reason they won't release it is because it keeps people coming back to their videos, which bolsters their number, bolsters as ad revenue, and then they can go to the shareholders and say, look, everyone's excited for our game. They keep coming back and re-watching the video. GTA is doing the exact same thing. Yes, we don't want people to spoil the game, but on day one, we want everyone so aggressively playing this game, we dominate the entire medium for like

Uly (40:53.738)
And then it canceled the game.

Greg (41:09.503)
At least a good three days.

Uly (41:11.296)
Can you imagine the reviewer that breaks their what is it NDR? NDA. Their NDA. Yeah, they break their NDA because the money coming in from breaking the NDA to the money they're gonna pay for that NDA is gonna be just like, that's chump change after this. Like, what, you guys are gonna sue me for a million dollars for breaking my NDA. That's cool. I made seven.

Greg (41:17.371)
they're NDA.

Ty (41:17.439)
Yeah. Someone's gonna do it.

Greg (41:28.108)
Mm-hmm.

Greg (41:34.177)
I made seven off ad revenue.

Uly (41:36.584)
Alone. I'll pay that.

Ty (41:39.125)
Yeah. Add revenue and new fucking subscribers, yep.

Uly (41:42.56)
subscribers, followers, like everything that comes from it, boom.

Greg (41:47.465)
All all GTA is doing is building up the floodgates.

Uly (41:51.029)
Like, what was that? That Digital Circus. You guys know that? The amazing Digital Circus. Yeah, they they were gonna release the finale in theaters and someone leaked it on X. I think it was. The whole finale, and it caused a whole bunch of shit.

Ty (41:56.54)
Mm. It does sound familiar.

Greg (41:56.577)
It sounds familiar.

Greg (42:11.211)
that's kinda like with the Avatar movie too.

Uly (42:13.426)
Yep, well.

Ty (42:13.591)
I still refuse to watch it. I refuse to watch that fucking leak on X. I wanna see it in person.

Greg (42:15.766)
Yeah.

Greg (42:21.409)
Once again, we are our own worst names. And like I'm saying, you know, I get it. Content creators gotta you know, gotta make their bread. Heck, I'm a podcaster. I totally get it. But at the same at the same time

Uly (42:24.009)
Where

Uly (42:35.094)
Dude, the internet's been wild these this last two years. The internet has been wild and like to the point where if you talk about it in two thousand one, it's like you bring or someone in two thousand or even in in the nineteen nineties when the internet was first p coming out, and you tell someone, yeah, in twenty years the internet's gonna be like this. What the fuck?

Greg (42:50.509)
Mm-hmm.

Greg (42:55.404)
Mm-hmm.

Ty (42:55.905)
So n not to bring up my asshole of a child. She likes to call it the nineteen hundreds to make me feel old.

Uly (43:01.206)
Well Damn Damn.

Greg (43:07.735)
But you know, somebody had pointed out there was a forum. I can't remember the exact you know verbiage, but they basically pointed out that in twenty thirty you will own nothing and you will like it. And we're pretty much there. We're basically like we're right around the corner and we're pretty much there. And we're like, Uh-huh. Cool, this is great. Yeah, well, you know what? Hey, as long as I can binge watch my favorite show on Netflix, or this doesn't affect me.

Ty (43:23.701)
Right around the corner.

Greg (43:36.735)
Until it does. And by then it's too late.

Ty (43:39.007)
It's a kink. Everyone has a kink. That's all I'm gonna say. Not to be nasty. Everyone has a kink.

Uly (43:39.166)
I hate that you brought up Netflix. They ruined Avatar.

Greg (43:43.135)
Yeah. Yeah.

Greg (43:48.896)
Yeah, but

Uly (43:50.006)
Can we have Fun Kinks back again?

Ty (43:53.697)
Yeah.

Greg (43:55.285)
As you couldn't tell guys, we were very passionate about this episode. This is this this

Uly (43:58.17)
we're so fucking pissed right now. We're trying to keep it in. We all want to crash out and we're just like, I'm not gonna crash out. Today's not the day. Today's not the day.

Greg (44:05.697)
Yeah. It's not the day. It's not the day.

Ty (44:07.005)
So I'm telling you, I'ma leave here, go r eat, and wow the fuck out for like five minutes in sheer anger and disgust.

Greg (44:18.475)
That's valid. That's very valid.

Uly (44:21.268)
He's gonna put on like a fighting game and just put the bots to easy and just wreck house.

Ty (44:25.265)
Actually, you know what's funny? I haven't played a fighting game in months. Yep. I've been on RPG kick. And Apex every once in a while. But I've been on RPG kick. Greg can attest to that.

Uly (44:29.002)
Really?

Uly (44:33.408)
Yeah, then.

Greg (44:39.179)
I've been playing Star Fox and it's it's actually been very therapeutic.

Uly (44:45.408)
Can't can't be mad with that. I've been playing Octopath Traveler.

Greg (44:50.765)
Yeah.

Ty (44:51.511)
I need to. I have it. Well the second one. Well, I have all of them.

Uly (44:53.086)
It's such a the I have all of I'm I'm going from one, two, and zero, playing them again. I just amazing games. They don't do

Ty (45:04.041)
Also, ARC systems.

Ty (45:10.399)
I love y'all. Not only are y'all updating Bla Blaze Blue after 2015, you dropped a new character. Ugh. And and and and Tokon. god.

Ty (45:30.901)
Hello ya. I don't care if somebody says it is fucking live whatever the fuck. I don't care. Live service. I don't care.

Greg (45:34.594)
I like

Greg (45:41.099)
Live service.

Uly (45:42.398)
You know, I wanna bring this up because this is just a funny thing that happened. I found Tyrone in a game.

Ty (45:48.847)
god. We're not gonna talk about what you sent me.

Uly (45:51.659)
Great. Greg knows I sent it to him too. I'm like, damn, it may tie into a game. You gotta admit, that shit was wild.

Ty (46:01.529)
It was definitely that. Like

Greg (46:05.451)
You might want to you might wanna check some of the people at work, make sure they're not secretly devs.

Ty (46:09.877)
Yeah. I mean everybody thinks I'm a crash out. Everybody thinks I'm a crash out at work, so it's fine. I I understand.

Greg (46:11.617)
Resemblance was almost uncanny.

Greg (46:22.785)
What do you guys think? You know, are you all for digital media? Do you want to have physical media? Do you think there should be a balance between the two? Like when it started. What are your thoughts on GTA 6? Are you getting GTA 6? Do you already pre-order GTA 6? Do you just not even care? Like, you know, let us know in the comments. We would love to.

Uly (46:43.188)
And for those that don't care, what game are you excited for? I wanna know.

Ty (46:46.231)
Greg (46:46.892)
Yeah.

Uly (46:48.406)
If you're not getting GTA six or you're not getting any of these big Triple A games, what games are you excited for? I know our wish list is long with AAA and Indie and smaller developers, but what are yours?

Ty (46:58.849)
Yeah. Oniwusha Togon Mmm Mmm Persona, but we all knew this. Everybody in their mom knew this.

Greg (47:13.527)
My list is too long to to list.

Ty (47:13.687)
Final Fantasy Tales

Greg (47:19.362)
Right.

Ty (47:20.192)
Wolverine.

Uly (47:20.612)
I gotta restart Tales of a Rise. I've been having a kink for that one. Look at that itch.

Greg (47:26.593)
That's understandable. It ta that tails does scratch a specific edge.

Uly (47:28.99)
That that that ish, that ish. I'm like, god damn, that game was fun as fun. Atelier Yuma Yumea. gotta go back into that one. The fact that like the there's games that you don't you buy and you're like, damn, I don't wanna play anything else. Cause after you're done with that one, you play one more and you're like, I wanna go back to it. It's the best feeling ever.

Ty (47:30.933)
Yeah, it it tickles tickles something in your brain a little bit.

Greg (47:33.397)
Yeah. It's like something that that one does.

Ty (47:38.826)
Uh-huh.

Greg (47:51.757)
Mm-hmm.

Ty (47:52.457)
Metaphor. I am literally playing replaying metaphor right now.

Uly (47:56.918)
There you go. You beat it once, you play a few games in between, you come back to it. It's beautiful. Companies hate that.

Ty (48:03.475)
I'm at like I'm at two hundred and fifty hours of metaphor already and I've beat that game multiple times.

Uly (48:07.84)
Imagine they give you a play limit.

Greg (48:11.149)
Don't put that evil out there. Don't don't put that evil out there, Yuli.

Uly (48:13.601)
